Context for Veig changes?
I've seen the Veigar changes on the pbe that'll ship out with the next patch, I've also read the reason that Veigar is getting changed. He needs some compliments to hit kit since the removal of dfg hit him harder than most other mages. With that in mind, what happened was there were some problems with his kit, super mana heavy, nearly undogeable stun, and a really bad laning phase to name the top 3. The idea was to keep Veigar up to date, while still keeping his core aspect of Leagues prime blower-upper. The closest to healthy 100-0 champ you can get to. Now the changes that were implemented (in order of skils) were lowering the CD at lower levels of his q, making it a 2 hit skill shot(important to note theres no dmg reduction as far as I was aware) but making the higher levels a slightly longer and increasing the range. The case for w is lower mana costs and lower cooldowns, slightly, gameplay and dmg unchanged. E has a lower cooldown, higher range, lower manacosts, but with an added telegraphed delay before its laid down. R has WAAAAAAY lower manacosts (at later levels), lower cooldowns and a not too severe AP scaling decrease.
So that's the changes, here are the ner/buff count. 2 straight nerfs(ult ratio and stun delay), 1 early game buff/late game nerf(q CD), a plethora of smaller buffs in the form of mana costs/Cd's, two big buffs to his q-eg his lategame make or breaker(range and double hit), and a change in targeting for his q(neutral change due to the fact it can be missed now/it can be used to poke better/check brushes). The changes aren't TERRIBLE in theory, it'll be a huge QOL buff for Veig if the stun field delay doesn't cause him to get wrecked.
The point of this posts though is to get some clarification for WHY the un-self explanatory changes were made and for example why other changes weren't. For example why make q a skill shot or go through ppl and increase the range instead of something like a Hurricane style targeting system that hits two things in a certain area? Was the range increase implemented bc it was so hard to use effectively at such a low range? Stuff like that. I think that if people start getting a little more context and thought process behind why this was changed, it'll be received with a lot less open hostility by everyone, and more only biased hostility from people that will moan and complain about everytime a champ is changed or nerfed.
Also I just really wanna know why this route was chosen for Veigar instead of a different one where the stun field is reworked and the parts of his kit that were dependent on that(coughcoughmeteorcough) weren't changed accordingly. A lot of the worry about the delay is that the meteor is almost entirely dependent on the stun bc of the cast time and delay. Also that the super hard core engagers that can go through a team in an instant will be able to get to you and kill you before the stun comes up. That can be worked around though with pre planning-kinda, so I'm not too worried about it personally. Will Veigars q still get full benefit from spell vamp btw? Sorry not sorry for the lengthy posts.
Shot version, why did you choose to go with the current changes to Veigar for his quality of life buff for life after dfg?
