Tank Meta has returned, Fun has left

I'm seeing a lot of these threads popping up lately, so I'll add my voice to the throng as concisely as I can. The only way to be heard it seems is to get as many people as possible to say the same thing.

Tanks. More specifically, Juggernauts, but tanks as a whole have benefitted immensely and are now anti-fun for a lot of players. Riot talks about meaningful tradeoffs a lot, and it's a concept I agree with - if you want to have a champion who's good at something, they should be less good at certain other things. ADCs do massive damage, and in return have minimal defences. This is good. This is healthy.

Despite this philosophy, we've now reached the stage in League where tanks have massive, massive defences, and yet now deal more damage than most fighters and some assassins. Their meaningful tradeoffs are now what exactly?

A lot of people are using "Just kite them" as a comeback. That's all well and good if you're LeBlanc or Lucian, but that's not a viable argument for meaningful counterplay. Someone like Garen has a movespeed buff that is basically Garen-teed to let him catch up to you unless you land hard cc, which a lot of champions don't have in a 1v1 fight. That also relies on your CC having a shorter cooldown than their chase ability, which it obviously won't because CC abilities would be broken otherwise. When he does catch you, his silence means you don't escape. If you fight, he's tanky as balls so you won't hurt him. He also now has ridiculous damage as well, so he'll almost always kill you first anyway.

This isn't balanced. This isn't fun.

I get it, tanks have a set playstyle - their role is to absorb everything whilst breaking the frontline, so the high damage champions can get a window to wreck face like they were born to do. But we're now at the point where the backline isn't even needed anymore. Tanks can walk forward through all of the damage and then kill whoever they want without even losing a third of their health.

That isn't balanced. That isn't fun.

The new tank items are cool, but they've made tanky champions too good at everything. If you don't die in fights, there should be an obvious tradeoff - you sacrifice damage output for sheer survivability. Yes, by all means tanks should be able to shrug off damage and land CC or some other meaningful impact to a teamfight, but when a tank deals so much damage they need to be focussed, they've overstepped the mark by a considerable way. Too many times it's the same story in a teamfight - the focus is on the ADC or the mage so the Juggernaut kills everyone instead, or the Juggernaut is focussed, kills everyone anyway, and doesn't die.

In a 1v1, an ADC with a BotRK and Last Whisper in their build shouldn't lose to a tank.

Tanks should be tanks, not assassins who also can't be killed.

Tanks are disruptive characters with high disruptive capabilities and high survivability. Juggernauts are damage dealers with high survivability.

"There was no tank meta" - the child.

Seriously the "tank meta" people had all been talking about was simply tanks were finally being viable, with some being broken as a result which was to be expected.

No, depends on situations they should, if by tank you mean Juggernauts here.

The entire point of Juggernauts is that they hit hard but are hard to kill but they are extremely slow and very kitable, and needs some feeding to reach their god status.

The tank meta was fun. And I didn't play tank either.

Garen has no more bonus tenacity on his W. CC him, win game. Seriously, out of all the Juggernaughts, his was the touch up that changed him the least. All his old weaknesses are still present, and actually magnified since his silence, MS boost, and MS are all down and the aforementioned loss of bonus tenacity.

Complain about Morde. Complain about Skarner. Hell, complain about Darius. But you've got nothing to stand on to complain about -GAREN-.

Riot said the bruisers AKA juggernauts were a bad archtype and didn't know what to do with them

I dunno why they decided to bring them back. Their weakness SHOULD be mobility and CC but for some reason, for champions like Garen, they've removed that weakness and have let them run wild.

Garen's core playstyle hasn't changed from the original playstyle. z.z;;

His core play-style didn't but his itemization and buffs gave him more of an edge that he didn't need.

Malphite, Taric, Urgot (Damage and tanky somehow). I as Lucian couldn't do shit. Period.

41% armor reductin on 500 armor is irrelevant. Taric and Malphite alone would kill me (should they be able to?)
