I FEEL BAD for new players

Sk8dudeninja··39 votes·4,995 views

Today I possibly saw the worst side the league of legends community.

STORY TIME

I wanted to get my friend into league so we could play together and have fun. I used an old account to help him get a feel of the game and see if he wanted to join or not. We played about 5 games and honestly it was awful and a lot different from when I started league of legends, the chat was a battle ground of insults from lvl 30 bronzes trying to play as smurfs so they could brag in chat saying how bad the enemy was or how "good" they are. It turned into a full out war when our Darius tried to explain pretty complicated things to our Garen who isn't understanding ANY OF IT.

SO WHAT THE SOLUTION TO IT? WHEN A NEW PLAYER DOESN'T UNDERSTAND COMPLICATED THINGS

Swear your Ashe off and bully the hell out of him

I tried to get Darius to lay off trying to explain to him hes new but ofc I doesn't help one bit

The lower levels are full off just the MOST CANCEROUS part of league and I can honestly say after those few games my friend isn't convinced league is worth his time and he said and I quote

"I like the game and all but is everyone that plays this game like that?"

Riot, Please in anyway you can, please save these new players from the torrent of insults so they can actually enjoy the game for what it's worth

Don't take new people in pvp.. Espicially like pre 12...

Find a group of people who wouldn't mind playing with a new person.

Take precsutions. Have them in voice chat with you if you can.

Not saying I don't agree with you but when it comes to getting friends into league you gotta take it carefully. And prepare them little by little what they will eventually meet.

It is hell down here. I won't lie.

Not everyone is like that.. they're just few and far down here.

Also if the system figures out that OP is a smurf (which it can in just a few games) it'll make him and his friend both matched against other smurfs. I would recommend OP playing bot games with him and helping him get some mechanics first. I might even say let him try PVP on his own if he really wants to so he can play against similar skilled opponents. This is mostly crucial in the early levels like you said. I play with my level 16 friend often enough and we win about evenly.

ive been playing just barely over a month now...still a baby! xD but at lvl 30 now...the last few days have been the most toxic. you run into these ranked players, usually its the ones with dropping ELO on ur team, that turn on you, for not know exactly how to do so n so, oh and god forbid you take 2 seconds to buy an item, or drop a lvl behind the others. because that players gonna be up youre butt like no tomorrow. ive ran into so many the last few day i think when im solo, unless its ARAM going to break from 3v3 and SR and do some bot games to get the ip i need for my next champ. pvp is scary. even more scary when the players start taunting in the farming phase, and put the entire game at rick because they want to be supa player numba wan! (xD.....sorry...i just woke up..lol)

Hey man, well I'm a bit late because you're level 30 but welcome to the game! And yea, don't worry about that stuff, people are jerks, best to just ignore them. If I could say one thing, play bots lots. When I was level 30 I played mostly bots for a long time, with some normals every now and then with friends or alone (mostly got wrecked until I started playing normals more often). The nice part of bots if you can learn basic mechanics with different champs, or even practice with ones you know. The only problem is bots don't act like people, playing some normals is good but be prepared to get your but handed to you, that's part of the learning curve of this game unfortunately.. play lots of ARAMs too - it's more casual and you get to learn how other champs work, and it helps you teamfight a lot because you're always having to dodge abilities. The more you solo, the more you'll get matched with people close to your skill level... ranked has a different match making. So they can talk about their silver elo or whatnot but at the end of the day they are similar skill level to you. When I hit level 30 I played normals with my buddies a decent amount, you learn faster because you get destroyed... it's just a bit less fun but I put up with it and I still remember the first game I got fed as Kat while playing with my buds. :)

If you have questions or want to chat or anything just add me in game!

You know there's a new player problem with a game when the only real solution is "enter with a group of friends and only play with them".

Iageri1 votes

Like I said... I agree with them but yea...

I won't lie it does have new player problems. even though I myself am an Alt, I'm not salty to new people I find new people in my games a lot.

Normally I would be Support in lower levels but I found someone who's new who likes support so I became their first ADC.

I'm never salty to them I try to help them, tho im only bronze only so much I can teach them.

mason water1 votes

actually aram is pretty good for new players, its how i got introduced in a near toxin free environment... although bots are a bit of a problem unless your playing with a friend or two

Zekiel151 votes

I agree when I first started LOL I was really confused even in the tutorial in the beginning, I sucked so hard that i barely made it through that, then less than 2 months later i'm lvl 30 and practising for rank I started PVP at lvl 9 and before the game even started I was panicking, but it all turned out fine my team won, so what I'm saying you can't push an egg of a cliff and tell it to fly, champions take time for you to learn them, and not all players act horribly but there are some players like that, so when ever i see there summoner name on the enemy team i make them my first priority.

Plus the amount of smurfs makes actual new players think they suck and not want to play

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Maybe make higher elo worth playing again? Seriously i just feed my ass of every second game because the amount of boosted retarded player around diamond/highplat is unbearable. No fun at all. The only fun i can have is with my low gold friend and his silver friends. That actually makes fun but other than that. Nope thanks.

CeexSett6 votes

You are dimaond/high plat and play with silver and golds, you are an asshole to the enemy silvers who are going to face you.

Plus if you feed on purpose "every second game" that is also very asshole-y.

bill843 votes

I actually can't tell what you're complaining about here. Are you saying that the boosted people in your elo are somehow responsible for you feeding every other game, so you play against golds and silvers because they aren't as good so you do better and have fun? This just makes it sound like you are boosted because you cannot do well enough in your elo to even have fun playing there, but I may have misinterpreted.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Yeah so boosted i can'T drop out of plat and i am again on my way to plat 1 promos :c and while u sit in silver 2 with 300 games calling a higher elo player boosted is a pretty bolt statement. Git gud before talking to me

You actually make no sense.

this is bad but well.. /mute all could help.. the thing is, riot could possibly remove the chat, which would be terrible. but the problem is not what people say, it's not riot's problem, it's a problem of those people. you are playing with 5 people against 5 people and it's always gonna be a lot of misunderstading, lack of synergy, skill etc.

there are so many reasons why people are toxic, and mostly it's not because someone is bad at the game, but because someone has underlying psychological issues, behaviour, attitude problems etc. and riot really can't do anything about it. and of course, they have lost a lot of players because of that. and with the report system they are doing all they can, but they can't educate everyone and cure everyone's mental illnesses.

Mute them. So. Fucking. Easy.

You are talking to the wrong people here dude. This is a problem with the community. They do all that they can, players need to report, mute, and fuck even honor.

In general people don't give a shit about people flaming because they think "Well I'm not getting flamed" or some dumb shit.

Ireliavence1 votes

the whole world, is like that, and u probably only give enough shits to make this post because you also play the game.

but u probably have never donated to charity, or even thought about working with refugees. why?

you care about what happens in the game your apart of, so why not the world your apart of? cuz you dont really care.

in a month your reply to anything on this thread wont be remembered, and you wont have changed.

Tyler1 is better than, alot of the posts made like this, cuz at the very least, he owns up to being a problem. he doesn't wholeheartedly believe typing about how against something you are, is the same as actually doing something about it. stay pc bro.

Tobias Brackner4 votes

What kind of random bullshit are you talking about? Seriously, it's like the first 3/4 of your post it trying to put me in an existential crisis or something instead of talking about the topic.

I literally put in the solution "report, mute, honor"

That's the answer.

Everyone I've talked to knows League for one thing: "Oh, that game with the toxic community?" I can't even argue against it because nowhere else have I run into a place where you can get berated by teammates playing against bots.

The best solution I can offer is to /mute the enemy team, play bot games until your friend is confident enough to pvp, or gather enough people for in-house games. At least with in-house you can do what you want and have fun with your friends regardless.

I'm sorry that your friend was turned off by the community, but in a way he's doing the right thing by sparing himself from the cesspool that is bronze smurfs. Most bronze players I run into are pretty chill, but the bronze smurfs are the collective trash that poison the well by projecting their inferiority complex onto newcomers.

SmilesNSunshine1 votes

Happened to me on hots too, that's why I don't play that game anymore, and even if I do it's AI teammates versus AI...cause I don't want to deal with people.

While League can be toxic, it is no more so than any other online game, especially pvp related.

Dota 2 is just as bad HoTs is just as bad Every FPS ever is just as bad Eve online is FAR worse, but that is a different animal.

It isn't special to League, just League is the most popular.

I've recently picked up playing COD: Black Ops 2 again, and provided you don't play mid-early in the day with the Russians, there's actually almost no toxicity. Only occasionally does someone rage or something, and every time they do, the entire lobby (enemy and allies) just laugh at them until they ragequit.

ChaosThief1 votes

To be fair though, that's because all the actually toxic players have either A: moved on, or B: gone to the newest installment of the series (which I believe is black ops 3?)

That kind of thing sounds good, but the problem with most other games out there is they aren't free, which is why LoL is so popular. Like, I'd love to pick up CS:GO (or I wanted to at one point), but it isn't free, so I just can't be bothered. Hard to buy a game I "might" like to switch games.

I've tried the other mobas, but they are just either bad or lackluster (Dota 2, HoTs, and Smite)

Papa Slothy2 votes

I wanted to try and level an alternate account to spam solo queue (cause I generally just play w friends for fun) and I still haven't finished, not cause it's hard but cause EVERYONE is so toxic, it's insane

Meta Phyton2 votes

How did you try to push that aggression off of your friend?

There's a good way to go about it, eh ..?

My friend isn't new, but sometimes he is .. fairly reckless and due to his past and the fact that he doesn't understand English perfectly well, he fairly often interprets an insult in neutral observations, so people who don't know him have gotten on his back like that. He's good at the game, though, and he's carried our teams countless times.

When people got on his back, I just said what I could to honour the truth to have his back. Like, didn't try to get myself part of the debate or the flame war - just could say something like, "Don't mind him. He's good at the game, but sometimes he's a bit reckless. He's carried a lot of our matches."

I found, getting involved in the back-and-forth debate / flame war to try and prove who's right or wrong just leads to waay more hatred and discord. If they'd keep on going at it then, though, that's when I might mute him, and so would my friend. It's easy enough to recognise who is going to be really hateful and unreasonable, and in my opinion, it's fairly simple then to just mute them - because there's actually no point in listening to that, since if somebody is that hostile and unreasonable, then it's unlikely that anything they say the whole match will be decent.

I also promise it is not actually as common to encounter people who are truly unreasonable in League of Legends, so I hope your friend decides to stick around. He could even learn something about staying calmer in his regular life, if he approaches LoL as something of a learning ground for dealing with difficult people. That's what I did, and today I am much more untiltable than when I started. A lot of people are just venting when they type "wtf" or "omg" but they're actual decent guys who you could befriend easily. It's just that we only got to see them in their moment of frustration.

It's both a challenge to remain calm, but very, very worth it, if your friend decided to treat it as an actual place to learn composure too. It's not wonderful, since it'd be sweet if it was like the Olympics where the majority of people had esteem for each other. But even with that, it's not terrible, since we can still learn a lot and grow.

Your friend's lucky to have you looking out for him, so he doesn't have to go at it alone.

Xonra2 votes

I made an alt about a month ago because a friend said "Ya know, you tried x game for me so I'll give League a shot"

So first game, and I mean first game the two of us play, we get in and dear god....

Two of the people were also duo'd in this game, but clearly like me, they weren't new. They were stomping bots and bragging in chat as if anyone of the 3 of us should be impressed. When we didn't respond they started insulting us for being "retards who probably can't speak anyways". It was to the point I was surprised the bots weren't being toxic in all chat somehow.

Told my friend, just hold tab and click the icon to mute them because they aren't going to stop. They didn't stop, except the third random person finally got tired of hearing them apparently belittle my friend (who couldn't see the chat anyways as he had muted them) for being terrible and was defending him saying he was probably new. I guess my friend was curious at this point and unmutes them both and I don't know what was said, but my friend simply responded with "I really am new, and I'm trying my best. The shit attitude isn't helping me learn, so please, if you can help do. Otherwise just stop"

I face palmed cause...you never feed the trolls, but game was done.

FIRST GAME.

So the two toxic morons report friend, and from ONE, and I mean literally ONE game, his first ever, he got chat banned

So first game in League, he gets berated by two toxic morons, finally just gets fed up with being shit on all game and tells them he is new and to lay off, and in turn he gets chat restricted. Needless to say he didn't play a second game and I 100% can't blame him.

Retaliation shouldn't be punishable by some automated system without recognition of context.

Oscar Senpai1 votes

Did you lend him an account? Because if you did, thats the problem. He should try it by himself, on a new account of his own, then he will be placed versus either super bad people or new players and he will have way more fun. If this old account used to be yours and is already lvl 30 then it already has a hidden MMR. I had the same issue with my girlfriend, when playing by herself she enjoys it and wins many games.

Delphinium1 votes

Not only that. Everyone is smurfing too

Ireliavence1 votes

stop playing your your friends, pre lv 12.

the game will match them with smurfs.

just give him a chance, to fend for himself in game. as-long as you arent interfering riot will match him with other ducklings, then you can fuck up his mmr and make ranked harder for him later.

ChaosThief1 votes

With all these posts... I feel like I should make rookie smurfs and see how many of these toxic players I can remove.

Honestly, if these crop up every week or so, something has to be done. I just wish I could be 100% sure of my connection holding up (it randomly drops for me every now and then...)

Mokkun1 votes

I dunno man, I started in season 1, pre-tribunal. Levels 1-29 were pretty cancerous. Granted, more of it was screaming about how OP any given thing was, along with the ubiquitous, "call mia (insert insult here)," nonesense, where all deaths that could be blamed on teammates not calling mia, were. Apparently it was your teammates job to do map awareness for you. (I guess because we sucked, we assumed that we couldn't be held responsible for mistakes like not looking at the minimap?)

The complete intentional feeders were rampant, along with the HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE spam. There was no real sense that reporting would do anything, so the serious diehard trolls were out in force.

It moderately cleaned up around 30. I've got a couple lower level accounts, and to be honest, the game is a lot calmer and nicer than it was, and people who say it isn't either weren't there, or have rose colored glasses an inch thick on.

GarthBrooksIV1 votes

Play bots with ur friend so he can learn and dont let someone else play on your account. Thats a bannable offense.

Νichirin1 votes

It's the same in EUNE buddy , but only smurfs , no new players , even those ones just quit the game because of the amount of bronze smurfs. The solution would be that riot registers the IP once they make an account , if they make another account the system verifies to see if he made another account which is higher level and match them with other players that made new accounts that are bronze.

Torgaz1 votes

If he is just starting the two of you should make lvl 1 accounts together (so your higher level doesn't skew the match making and you face people that are also pre 10. It does make a difference as you are learning to start at the bottom.

Just learn on AI bots games until 30. You might have trolls or toxic people at first, but eventually you will just get quiet people who want a quick win and will actually help you too. Makes sense to me at least. It's also fun getting paired with a diamond player in bots and seeing him do crazy stuff lol

Lord Galvatron1 votes

The main issue is that due to dynamic que, people are now reaching higher ranks with their friends then they were when solo/duo que was the only available option (Not stating "I hate dynamic que", just stating facts). This is now leaving people playing with other people that should not be there in the first place because they were "boosted" there. This is leading lots of people now to make smurf accounts and that is why we are facing the problem you stated in the OP. New players and older players (who are trying to climb to lv 30 as fast as they can) should NOT mix (which why Riot implemented the MMR thing in the 1st place).
