Co-op vs AI Intermediate - how does the average beginner player perform?

JLUI··1 votes·4,225 views

Hi - newcomer to LoL, so apologies in advance if anything is off about this post. I tried to search for an answer on all the forums, but can't seem to find one.

I've been playing for about 3 weeks now, exclusively on Co-op vs AI. I've progressed to Level 8, playing Intro to Beginner and now to Intermediate. I try new champions when I can and really try to learn about their skills and how to use them effectively. Having said that, I understand it's still a learning curve.

Nonetheless, my question is around the Co-op vs. AI battles. How does the average beginner player perform in these Co-op vs. AI battles? I can't seem to get many kills, (lucky to get 1 or 2) per battle, but I do my part and try not to get killed, and the team has always pulled through and wins. I feel a bit frustrated because the rest of my bot team when I look at the post-match stats gets 5-20+ kills, and there I am with 0. haha - am I doing something really wrong? Or is this expected with the bot games?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

If you're not dying a lot and winning, you're doing great!

It's tough to compare yourself to allies, because they likely have played a lot more than you. There's a group of co-op vs AI only players that don't like the PvP game. Understandably, the intermediate AI isn't all that good and it isn't that hard to get 20+ kills on them once you've played against them a lot (they're actually quite predictable, and can be easily baited in to bad fights).

That aside, if you happen to get a co-op vs AI game with all new players, it will probably be a lot more challenging. I remember starting out like you did - intro bots didn't exist at the time but I went beginner to intermediate. I had about a 50% win rate in my first few intermediate games on summoners rift, went back to beginner, practiced a bit, then started winning more.

So yes, it's perfectly normal for a relatively new player to be about even with intermediate bots (similar kills to deaths). Once you start feeling comfortable against intermediate bots (can get kills, cs well, out-pressure them, etc...) you're probably ready to start playing PvP! People may be a bit rude (there's always that guy who actually has a level 30 account and is playing on a second account and expects everyone to be good - very unfair of him) but just mute them and do your best. Players are a lot different from bots (they'll often bait you in to bad fights, rather than the other way around) so it's probably a good idea to play more passively when you first start PvP, but otherwise you're there to learn and you're only going to learn if you get a few losses along the way. Definitely recommend politely asking for advice - my game stepped up a lot when I had a support who knew the game well and gave me lots of tips as ADC when I was first learning. While the mean guys are more vocal, most of us are nice!

Best of luck, sounds like you're progressing completely normally.

Intermediate bots are hard for new players. It gets easier, of course.

Thanks @valyrianblade and @bimclunk! Really appreciate your response.

Just as a follow-up, is there a recommended metric that I should aim for during Co-op vs AI mode? 5:1 ratio for kills:deaths? 10:1? 20:1? other stat(s) I should be looking at post-match? before I head off to PvP. I just want to gauge what skill/comfort level I should be at so I'm not thrown to the wolves when I join PvP.

Thanks again!

Realistically bots are only going to do so much to prepare you for PvP. I'd recommend playing pvp as soon as possible, but when you're playing bots you should have 2 goals: get as much CS as possible and die as few times as possible. If you can get a kill but you'll also die, don't go for it and play safer. That'll get you far for a while.

there is only so much you can learn form co-op vs ai bots, but i would say that they have a skill lvl between bronze 3 and bronze 2. (im not enitrely sure maybe someone who IS in an elo that low can be more precise as i am high sliver.

but i certainly remember when i first started playing intermediate bots were too hard for me.

i actaulyl still have 1 co-op vs ai loss on my record on my main account (this one)

and while i don't remember exactly when it happened.

im pretty sure it happened to an intermediate bot game when i was new.

i would certainly hope by the time you reach player lvl 30 you can beat intermediate bots 100% of the time

2 silver players can fairly easily beat a team of 5 intermediate bots

im fairly confident i could do it alone as well (1v5 them), but lately they have been improving thier AI. (they are getting MUCH better) and i haven't tested it yet. so i cant even been sure.

but the AI has gotten to the point that if they are grouped at 3, 4 or 5.. i need to start treating them as real players instead of bots

i have been flash united by Chogath bot.

i have seenKatarina Jax andLeeSin ward hop.

the AI is certainly getting better

but what has improved most about them is the communication between bots.

not surprisingly the bots can use teamwork VERY well and they can CC lock you until you die with relative ease if you don't be careful. (you know because the same server is probably controlling all 5)

they may not be much of a threat 1v1.. but damn, they have better communication than lcs players.

average human reaction time to visual stimuli is 180-200 ms we respond a bit faster at 140–160 (with males on average being about 10 ms faster then females on both)

where as a the server can talk to all 5 bots in roughly 0.5 ms (as of 2009, so its proably a whole hell of a lot faster now)

but the point is you may be smarter.. but they react faster... and when they start grouping they WILL work together, and it can be quite scary at times.

(because its always disappointing if you die even once vs bots)

The intermediate bots are a bit strange. In some cases they're a lot like the other difficulties in which they are easily baited and you can just hit them over and over with them eventually just walking back when they take a lot of damage. In other cases, they have inhuman reflexes and sidestep a ton of skillshots that would definitely hit your average player. Their stats are also noticeably higher (as in they take less damage, do more damage).

Once you get used to playing vs AI, you just start abusing their weaknesses and completely stomp all over them, but as a new player who doesn't really notice these patterns as much, you will definitely struggle.
