This game was (as I thought) going to be my first S toward mastery 7 with Rakan but i come out and get an A-. Can someone please tell me how this did not earn me one and how to more easily do so? Thank you! :) (http://prntscr.com/kli5xm) Note: I had 47 vision score if that amounts to anything

The stronger the champion, the better you have to do to get an S. Generally, that's most easily accomplished by taking more farm.

But yeah, that's an A- score because it's not uncommon to perform that well, since Rakan is rather strong.

But say I didn't get that one death, do you think I would've gotten S? P.S. Thanks for responding :).

No, Rakan has been heavily nerfed on several recent patches, so apart from being paired with Xayah, Rakan is one of the WEAKEST supports by far, influence of his powerful kit included.

I doubt that. Rakan is still in the top 5 picks. Yes, not on NA, but globally he is.

From what I understand, when supporting, the statistic that mastery ratings take most into account is the assist-to-teamwide kill ratio, or kill participation. You have a 24 kill participation out of a 45 kill game from your side, which is roughly 53.33% total KP, just barely above the 50% mark, and I think the cut-off for S rank support with less than 7/8 kills is 55%/60% Kill Participation.

It's easier to achieve an S as a damage-dealing support like say Lux or Brand if you top the damage-to-champions chart with only a few kills but only one or two deaths because the damage-to-champions stat tends to be weighted more heavily. If you are playing a utility/low damage support, then you most likely have to incur at least a minimum kill participation if you are not the one collecting the kills.

I'm mostly just speculating but I'm relatively certain that for the particular game you played, Jhin and Kayle must have achieved multiple kills that did not have you as a kill-involvement, and thus your KP tanks. It's a little ridiculous that Riot wouldn't account for the fact that if you as a support smash lane/mid-game and allow your carry(ies) to get fed, that they might go off on their own and continue to get kills while your own KP hemorrhages.

Not necessarily. Your K/D is not the issue, (nor the far,) it's not as important as people believe around here. It's hard to say what you needed this game by design, it could have been been a lot of possibilities.

It's not a huge thing, I've found that if you just focus on doing what you are supposed to be doing on your champion, like hitting your knock-ups, mitigating damage, using your items to give their benefits, and the like, and you then put in a few good games, you will get that S and the prize with no trouble.

Because your character level is tiny. You're 5 levels behind Kayle, and 3 levels behind Jhin who I presume you were in the lane with.

You're also 7,000 gold behind both Kayle and Jhin, too. I mean sure, I realise supports are normally 5,000 gold behind their team's most fed individual, but being 7,000 behind 2 people seems a bit much.

Deaths don't really hurt your score (except that they stop you from contributing for a little while). The main component of score, regardless of role, is CS.
