"On My Way" Ping Should Include Timer Based on Auto Pathing Speed

GraymatterWizard··46 votes·13,177 views

When pinging someone "On My Way" there should be small timing indicator that shows your teammate how many seconds it will take you to get to them based on you movement speed and auto pathing. This would help people make plays across the map. Rather then arbitrary calls of "be there in 5 seconds" we would know exactly how long help will come.

I imagine it’d be hard to code and it might give false assumptions to the person receiving help.

Example Talon E, Kayn E, etc. These significantly lower travel time but wouldn’t be factorable because of player control and unpredictability. They could arrive much sooner or much later than expected.

True. You make a valid point. Some champions have travel time that is harder to quantify. But overall it would be a net positive.

I would imagine anytime the summoner uses an ability/ changes course the timer would compensate. IDK what everyone's talking about saying this would be a complicated mess, it seems pretty straight forward to me. Have it calculate off movement speed and distance, find the variable from those amounts and any movement path changes would auto ping with the updated time of arrival. The ONLY problematic scenario I can forsee is someone deciding to abandon their original idea to help, but I think if there is a large enough (no idea on parameters for this) time differential there could be a confirm re-ping option, but if it's not confirmed the ping would disappear; I'm envisioning a timed box with only a confirm option that appears for a couple of seconds and if it is allowed to disappear it would cancel the follow up ping and replace it with an "OMW" icon that has an X in the center to signify it is no longer accurate. The whole mechanic I think would be really useful for 5-10+ second travel times, but under 5 seconds just be the "OMW" ping we have now so the summoner knows they are close enough to make a play. Please let me know if this makes sense or if you can think of situation that I didn't initially to flaw this; I'm no software engineer but I do know my LOL

Or how about using your eyes to constantly check map/minimap and this way ur map awareness will improve and your macros as well. That indicator clearly shows where the player currently is and also the distance, what do you want more? Soon people will ask for auto kiting cause they re too lazy for that or it s too stressful.

Many times the jungler/ mid laner pings that he s coming and in the meantime he changes his mind so in these cases a timer doesn t make any sense.

I think, that having a timer will be something useless for the reason i mentioned and also it s better to constantly check your mini map tho.

"I play league with locked screen and I look at my minimap once every four games riot pls handicapped players like me need more tools to play your super complicated video game"

If someone pings omw your eyes should instantly flick to the minimap and take 0.2 seconds to see where they are. This seems like it's only an issue for people tunneling.

That'd actually be pretty cool.

That makes perfect sense, especially when you are walking back to lane as a support and want your ADC to hold off on playing aggressive till you get there.

Yeah

People become more and more lazy to check the things around them and they complain that they get ganked even when they re pinged that the enemy jungler is coming towards them or they ward the bush but they never look on the map and get surprised by ganks with warded bushes. These cases are real and the issue is: no map awareness

Knowing Riot, this would immediately allow Azir to spawn infinite passive turrets that have infinite range, while also simultaneously causing Neeko to be able to disguise as the ping itself.

that sounds futuristic :D make it look like a project timer also. shaped like a countdown if they keep up that auto walk cycle.

This is good. Especially when your jungler pings 'on my way' 10 times, then you notice he's still in base.

Easily done as they've already done this with iverns passive. It gives a timer based on your hp/mana regen, showing how long until you have enough hp/mana to use it.

This would be problematic. What if something stopped us when we were on the way or we had to change our path? Probably would've ping everytime we are "delaying" way to our destination. Good idea tho but needs to prepared to all possibbe scenarios.

Once the pathing is figured out, maybe that would be a possibility

Yes, absolute genius idea, Rito pls look into this.
