Why is Malzahar a Champion?

PabloMaster54321··5 votes·5,201 views

So, he has overtime dmg which works perfectly with deathfire touch and liandry's, slows, stuns for hours, so much dmg, no matter how much mr you build or how much he is underfed he will always be op, even if you get qss for his ult that wont do much considering even if he doesnt ult you, you will still probably be dead, and why does his e pass on, so dumb, this basically means you have to stay 10 ft away from him at all times and cant stand anywhere near minions, so you cant cs, if you play yasuo against, YOU HAVE NO CHANCE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL DC AND IF YOU HAVE A SMURF USE IT, cause you have almost no chance, no matter how good you are, just nerf him plz......... And he's legit aids....... like the heck riot, first ebola no aids? you guys have problems!

There's literally a mountain of threads to post on and issues that require discussion and here you are cracking jokes. You couldn't even find it in yourself to take this thread seriously while you continue ignoring others.

I can't even say this is the reason I don't respect you, but it certainly doesn't help matters either.

RiotMeddler28 votes

Serious question - what do you think's an appropriate ratio of serious responses to joke responses for a Rioter? Would genuinely like to know whether you feel it's inappropriate to ever post something non serious, or whether it's a frequency thing that frustrates you.

Frigid Ice Storm3 votes

you're a Rioter, you should be more serious when a player is asking a genuine question or address the problem instead of just making a random joke, which is basically disrespectful, its like saying " IDGAF" to his face

Zane Zephyr13 votes

How is he asking a genuine question? This is literally a giant QQ thread, dude literally over-exaggerated and made it sound like Malzahar is the most OP thing in existence

do you see anyone here taking this guy seriously?

CrazedPorcupine23 votes

The thing is, This post is straight up raging without any real questions to lead to a proper discussion. A better post to get a serious red response would be:

Why does Malzahar have so much easily accessed damage in his kit through his E and Ult? or Why does one item nullify all of Malzahar's use?

Posts like the OP don't lead to good discussions from Rioters. They lead to people not taking the OP seriously, the OP getting downvoted to hell, and Rioters making joke responses because the original post lacks any content that leads to worthwhile discussion.

Decrit1 votes

Cool down here.

A Rioter must not post joke responses just because a thread is bad. Sure, posting a joke as a mean of defense from personal accusation is something very valid, but picking on a thread because is bad is just bad itself.

This case is different to me however: Meddler is not picking on OP, is humoring it. There is a deep difference from that and a joke, because humor can exorcise rage and frustration. People need to let down sometimes their feelings, but those feelings have to leave the body properly without lingering, and that' s where humor comes in. Makes you realize how many things are just plain stupid to think on, in a delicate and positive way.

Then again if somebody is an eternal cynic and sees everything grey they might get offended a bit... but in my opinion, those are the ones that need humor the most.

For me it's the order. If you get a joking post about a concern you have before you see a serious one, then it feels like the Red is dismissing your feedback.

There's also a kind of sense of "time since the last Red post that makes me feel like they're working hard at their job," since it's the tail end of the holiday season that value is very high and a joke obviously does not count as a post that would reset that number.

I kind of want to know what the reason they don't respect you is.

Pika3105 votes

That would be because Meddler has publicly lied and attempted to spread false propaganda not just once, but multiple times in the past few months.

For example:

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/i4mbjszh-meddler-state-of-sona?comment=0003

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/EkxbfyvO-so-lemme-get-this-straight?comment=0008

The Bearded Bard4 votes

So because he views Sona as a bit strong instead of weak, you disrespect him as a person? You people ask for his opinions, he gives them, and you flame him?

Pika3104 votes

Except that's not his view. Everyone knows Sona is the weakest champ in the game: you do, I do, Rito does, including him. He's intentionally lying to players solely because of his own bigoted hatred of the character. If he doesn't want to be flamed, he shouldn't be disrespecting players that want a Ritoer to actually be honest for once.

Pika3107 votes

That's subjective to the current state of matters at hand. Work first and joking after. When things are slow, a quick pun will lighten the mood. When problems increase, people would rather have a real discussion.

As I said, right now things are tense and there is a literal mountain of issues that have of yet not been answered and people that have waited months or longer for some sort of honest insight to be given. Emotions are so high right now, there are even multiple threads complaining about Rito not responding to threads complaining about Gameplay, the situation is at a fever pitch. This is not even a result of holiday vacation, it's a problem that hit its stride a considerable length of time before.

If you have time later for a longer insight into the issue I'm referring to, I believe this is probably a good thread to read:

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Y4sgQ4zT-warning-monster-post-contained-within-anyred

RiotMeddler4 votes

I read through some of that thread earlier today. Monster posts like that that cover a huge range of topics and points are really difficult to respond usefully to, there are so many different things going on that they don't fit into the 15 minute blocks during the day where a chance to post something crops up. I'd certainly be down for talking about some of those points, would be much more able to do so in separate, concise threads though.

BetweenSkill4 votes

My thread was long, but at the end it came to a single point. Everything was just examples to come to the question, "Why do we get increasingly less and less feedback and discussion as the years have passed?" Shouldn't it be the opposite? The Fiora post touted how basically player experience and feedback is hugely important, all while SPECIFICALLY on the Gameplay boards, it is largely ignored.

If you reread the post now, there's a small section I wrote directly to you.

Hope to hear back from you at some point :)

While I am not an employee of Riot, I think there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First is that it has been the holiday season. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New years are all really close together, that would have a large impact on Riot's responses. When I come home from work, the last thing I want to do is more work. The second thing, I would think, is how this community treats Riot employees. A lot of witch hunting goes on in the boards. Why put up with that abuse? If you think this is bad on the boards, go on /r/leagueoflegends it's much worse there. I can understand why they wouldn't want to talk on the boards.

BetweenSkill4 votes

I've replied to this about 8 times on the main thread, but I'm not talking about break. I'm talking about it over the years and the last one specifically. It's been getting worse this whole time.

And as I've also stated there multiple times, most of the toxicity disappears when Rioters consistently appear on the boards. The radio silence fuels the rage and toxicity more than the vast majority of posts could. It's better to have a Red post someone doesn't like than to get nothing at all. That way we at least have a sign they care about feedback.

Awkward Couch1 votes

I didn't see you talk about the being on break part. My apologizes for that.

As far as the toxicity going down when Riot is more active, I just don't see that being true. Especially on Reddit. If you look at a lot of the boards, they are mostly just raging about the game instead of the discussion of the game. I can see why Riot doesn't respond to a majority of the threads.

Pika3103 votes

I'd certainly be down for talking about some of those points, would be much more able to do so in separate, concise threads though.

Herein lies the main problem I'm emphasizing: the number of separate concise threads is and has been steadily increasing. Whereas Rito responses to those threads has been steadily declining. I'm not saying that the percentage of threads being responded to has been falling, but the actual gross number of red posts as a whole are becoming fewer and farther between. Communication is lacking and discussions are breaking down.

If every day truly had 15 minutes open for even just a single response, that would be far more than we are getting right now.

Keevalroy8 votes

I don't think it's a question of ratios. To echo his point a little, there are concerns that make it to the front page all the time with resounding community agreement, and nothing is addressed. Take this one for example: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Y4sgQ4zT-warning-monster-post-contained-within-anyred

I don't know what people are expecting in this thread in terms of a Riot response, but I know exactly what will happen. You'll get someone like Ghostcrawler to come in, talk like a politician, write a novel worth of responses that when you read into it say absolutely nothing at all, and nothing further will be taken from community input.

People are angry. We just want some honest discussion, not dismissive ignorance when we call Riot out on their ideology and decisions, blind optimism that everything you're doing will be positive, or stonewalling developer stubbornness when we're asking for compromise or just a straight answer of "why is X change happening?" so we can all talk about it, devs to playerbase. And this means playerbase to devs as well, communication and feedback should work both ways.

Meddler!

Glad to see you're back. Is there any chance you could pop into this thread on OhmWrecker or direct someone there to give us some insight on the idea? Quite a few people agree something needs to be done with OhmWrecker, so it's not quite so useless.

The thread is here: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/KbiAXyB8-ohmwrecker-would-be-useful-if-it-had-an-active-for-allied-towers-as-well

Thanks in advance! If you don't pop in it's fine, but it'd be nice for you to comment on your thoughts :)

Hmmm apart from when you are in serious need of some PR after taking the ignorant we-don't-care course for too long? ( That usually is a time window of a few days...)

Now for the gameplay board: 40% nonsense, 40% "Lol no clue but we are working on it somehow maybe if the stars are in the right spot.", 10% stuff like this and 10% stuff we actually want.

Cosidering that this board is usually completly devoid of reds that makes it even worse...

Meddler I wouldn't even entertain asking that question. You know when people are upset they don't think rational, and when they don't think rational they accuse you of not spending enough time of talking about serious topics. You can shoot the shit when you're off the clock. I mean, you are posting this from home considering the time. Don't waste your breath man, it isn't worth it sometimes.

BetweenSkill2 votes

I believe the fact that the Red posts on this board are more joking then not kind of fuels a lot of the frustration when most (95%) of the serious threads get ignored on the "most serious" board.

it's hard to get frustrated cause you make goddamn good jokes, but over time when that appears to be more often than not, or at least feel that way, it gets a bit... dismissive idk.

(Like my thread literally talking about this subject that's been at the top of Gameplay boards since noon)

I think if there are topics that people on the boards are overall asking for dialogue on, like there are multiple threads on it, or issues where people have been told to expect follow-up soon but don't get any, that's where people may get peeved at joke responses. So things like current work (or even ideas) for Cass, Morde... acknowledgement of player based ideas or critiques... That kind of thing.

That being said, you guys come up with some awesome jokes ;)

Nefas2 votes

It has a lot less to do with ratio and a lot more to do with timing. You post the hilariously blithe "State of the Preseason" but don't respond to any posts in it or the posts on the boards about the state of the game, which isn't anywhere near what it needs to be for the actual season.

Linna Excel1 votes

Depends on the thread a rioter is responding to. I can't blame y'all for fooling around because you guys need to goof off too though.

It helps if the joke is good.

Retillin2 votes

Well, when will we see a follow up to the State of the Season post you made? It is almost completely negative feedback. But yet no communication. By the way, communication is back and forth. Not just a statement.

Xenos von Faneli1 votes

Meddler ol buddy, I see it like this, if you got a good joke in you, no harm in spending a few seconds to share it and, in the words of Cosmo Brown, make em laugh. If however you've got meaningful advice or input to share, then do that, and if you can somehow manage both at the same time then even better. And on the note I'll leave you with my personal plea that I might someday see Pantheon's dreams of baking realized.

He has zero slows, zero stuns. Him using E to farm means he's pushing the wave, which means he's easier to gank since he has no escapes, especially pre-6.

Your precious yasuo is a bullshit champion anyways, I love stomping yasuos with malzahar.

Indeed. Malzahar excels at anti-assassination with his powerful, single target burst thats only effective in 1v1 situations.

Are you AD? if yes ---> Maw of malmortus If no ---> Get some HP so he cant 100-0 the squishy

Raylai is pretty good on almost every AP now that its a "top tier AP" item. Getting some extra mres is also super useful.

Zane Zephyr4 votes

Pre-6, if he uses his E on a minion wave, that's your chance to go in and deal some damage if you're close ranged-ish. His Q or W won't do much damage (unless he's maxing Q first, and that means he also has to hit it). If you're playing someone like I mentioned above, it's actually really easy to push him under tower early on, especially if he's building a RoA first, since he won't really have that much AP until he gets at least a blasting wand.

If he's pushing you in, get your jungler to gank if possible. If you both aren't at half health, you can at least blow a flash if you manage to make him miss his Q (which he has to stop to use, mind you). If he's also using all of his mana to farm, make sure you punish him for it. He has relatively high mana costs before he gets his items, so if he doesn't have a voidling up, try to push him away from autoing minions that have his E on it so he doesn't get his mana refund.

If he has a voidling up and manages to get his E onto you, RUN. Those things dish out a crapton of damage, especially early on. I can't tell you how many times I've half-healthed someone from ONE E+Voidling at level 3.

Don't underestimate his damage AND his range, because he can easily 100-0 a lot of people. Just because he's half health doesn't mean you should try to all in him, because he can easily and instantly turn it around before you even get to him.

Tract7 votes

So I take it you lost lane to a Malzahar? I am sorry to inform you that he, in fact, is not OP. His ultimate is countered completely by a 1.2k item, an item that builds into a relatively powerful ADC item, and can just be held for a while if your AP.

Big Lincoln2 votes

you realize QSS only cleanses the suppression and not the massive damage, yeah?

Troll Armada1 votes

um, wouldn't damage be based upon your reaction time? if you're too slow it's gonna be massive still, but at least he won't be able to last hit yo ass.

Big Lincoln1 votes

iirc the tether range for his ult is massive so if you're not packing a stun you're done for anyway

it's a good option but it's not this 100% counter every time item

ps despite what boards mage patrol will say malz is super cancerous

Troll Armada5 votes

oh yeah, malz def a zero skill champ, now that Riot removed mana potions, made regen runes worthless, and nerfed his w recently i just saw...yep, I bet it's super easy to play him.

no resource management skills, positioning, or last hitting required.

If only all champ could be more skill based like garen and yaso.

( for all u AD mains out there, this was sarcasm )

Big Lincoln1 votes

wow a tiny, insignificant nerf to the last skill he maxes, the horror_. mana pots being removed -totally- harmed a champion who gets mana back for basic last hitting, rushes a mana item, etc

do you really think malz is harder than yasuo, rofl

I concede that there are some interesting mechanics which are unique to Yasuo....

Lose the salt and learn what he does and look at some counterplay guides.
