While it does sometimes depend on who you're up against and which side of the map, there's some locations that are almost always good:
- blue side bottom-most Tribrush. For blue-side botlaners, not warding this bush is almost trolling. For red-side, the primary purpose to warding here is to watch drake a different way and to see whether or not they have it warded. Also makes it a bit safer to shove lane.
- Dot brush. Gives vision of crab, drake (or at least in front of it), and basically every way their mid can reach you. Extremely few champions can get around the dot brush without spending a colossal amount of time.
- Alternatively, the red-side bush nearby or that bush at the corner of the 4-way intersection above red buff. They give similar areas of vision coverage. The blue-side intersection bush gives vision of raptors and the back wall of the drake pit (basically giving you total coverage of the south jungle), while the red-side one gives...more or less the exact same effective ward coverage as the dot bush, with the only real change being it's less likely to be walked over.
- Red brush. That little brush right by red buff. A properly-placed ward here, combined with the above two, gives you total vision of everything except their raptors (or including raptors if you got the bush right north of this one)
- The bush above that one bush near the dot bush. You know, the one that hugs the wall. Few people walk through this bush, but it has good vision of a few places, so a deep control ward or ghost poro here is usually a safe bet, because it's unlikely to be discovered.
Basically, ward anywhere that they have to pass through to get to you or an objective. You don't have to see them all the time with the ward, it just has to be in a place they have to walk through. If you see them walk into the south jungle, and you have all exits warded, you know they're in the south jungle until you see them leave it.
