Remember when newly released champions used to be basic?
Now they come equipped with auto and melee abilities. A perma stun. A gun. A sword. ETC

As games evolve, they up the ante, all updating games do this, from card games to fighting games.

riot game 2019
just look at
or
There was Ivern who people played a little because he was busted then he got nerfed and abandoned because if a champion is simple it means they have few options and if those few options arent busted there is no reason to play them. Oh Aurelion Sol was simple too! Oh same fate as Ivern? Well shit.
A gun. A sword. ETC
whoa, characters going to a fight with weapons? Madness!
aphelios is very basic you deplete a gun and he grabs the next one
You think this game would survive without mobility?
Take out every extremely mobile champion in the game. You just removed 75% of the playerbase. GG
You mean when Riot was shitting out champions every 2 weeks which gave us shit like Shyvana?
So... never?
I mean, when Yummi was released, people shit talked her for being too similar to Soraka and Sona ( boy were they wrong) A while after Morde was released, people complained he's boring and too binary to play unlike old (more complicated) morde. There's only so much you can do with simple kits.
We just gonna ignore Neeko, Kayle, Morgana, Yuumi, and Pantheon? Even Senna is pretty simple in terms of gameplay mechanics, although her spells require some reading.
Remember when people leveled up their accounts instead of buying botted ones?
