Idea for new game mechanic

With the approaching changes that season 5 will bring to SR every analyst is running the numbers and preparing their strategies. With so few new variables and some very large changes (dragon) gameplay will shift direction in the top object to control and how this control is obtained (comp, bans, etc). To add a wildcard to the mix I would like to propose an idea. A new mechanic in the picks ban section of preparation. I propose a team in draft pick or ranked (also a form of draft) can choice to sacrifice a champion ban (possibly 2) for the selection of an item ban. Barring both teams from using the item. Balancing would have to come and testing would have to be done to use this idea but there are ways to create this balance. I believe the most balanced approach to this would to either be forced to ban an item first if you intend to at all and/or if you ban an item second you are penalized with the consumption of your third champion ban. I am open to ideas on building this up and would find the game interesting if everyone was unable to build boots or something fun of that nature. Please comment and criticize.

Thank you, Divine Rusher

TL;DR : We should ban items in champ select instead of champs with a trade-off system.

i like the idea behind this, as it adds to "strategic thinking" but i think you could run into slight troubles. "ban hunters machete" could destroy junglers. also are there really items that are so broken that must be stopped? while i like the idea at the time i think it is impractical to think we have to get rid of 1 item and allow 2 champions onto the field. possibly in the future, just not at this juncture ;-)

banning machete would be a possibility however it bans it from both teams just as champion bans do so both teams are forced to decide if they need a jungler with a specific item or 2 1 2 laning

instead of banning a early game item make it to where a team only bans a fully built item if u ban a health crystal people wont beable to build and tankly items or a cloth armour no normal armour items it should be a late game or mid game iem like ban b.o.r.k. dont ban a cutlass or long sword ban b.o.r.k.

I like that idea, you could even make a pool of ban credits, starting with 3.0.... a champ ban costs 1.0, an early game item cost 1.5 or 2.0 and a late game item could cost 1.0 . values could be assigned on how often items are used or importance or even how many items branch from that single item

Let's see what we can ban:

  • Boots
  • Machete, and then pick Fiddlesticks and ban Warwick
  • Sightstone
  • Pink wards
  • Hell, ban regular wards and pick Rammus
  • Banshees and Maw, then pick 4 casters
  • Health potions

No. There are champions that need certain items. If you can ban one item you might as well of just banned like 20 champions since they're all useless without that item. And some champions need certain items to counter them. Imagine if you can't ward that invisible enemy, or ward at all, or can't get that QSS you need, etc. Worst part is, now that every defense item makes out of cloth armor, and every mr out of null-magic mantle, you could ban one of those and they can't even make one item of that type. Meaning you could make lots of offense where you'd just wipe the floor with them almost instantly and they can't build anything that could stop you. That sounds BAD.

banning items indirectly bans champions and potentially whole team comps -impossible to balance lets just ban triforce or randuins or athenes or IE or last whispe ...... the list goes on

simply arent enough items in the game to do this
