Found A New Poppy Build, And I Think It's Broken

Let's Cover The Build First! item 3812 + item 3071 to full tank. I recommend item 3065 + item 3047 for max CDR, the last two items can be anything tanky, but i recommend selecting two of these four item 3193, item 3022, item 3748, or item 3075. Take 18/0/12 with Fervor as your keystone. I have tested this build in some matchups and once in ranked, with only 1 loss. 7/8 matches were victories.

So, Why Not Full Tank? Poppy has been struggling against split pushers or skirmishers because she can't sustain against them. Ex: Riven,Illaoi, Kled, and Kayn ) They usually out trade Poppy due to their lifesteal/oppression. This build is recommended when you fight such champs. In team fights, all you can do is try to tank as much as you can. Their isn't much of a reason to try to kill Poppy because she does some dmg, but not enough to cause enemies to focus her. Champs like Renekton, Darius, and Kled, can build tank and burst out the carries if not focused. If she plays vanguard, (protect your adc from skill shots, divers, or assassins) she only has a stun and slows, (quick knockup from her ult). I know her W does stop dashes but its uptime is too slow and it can't block blinks or sprint dives from champs like Riven, Darius, Olaf, or Kassadin (Riven and Darius can Flash to burst out backline, Olaf just R and ghost and Kass just uses R). Champs like Galio, Shen or Braum are simply better vanguards. (Quicker/Better CC, dmg reduction, or shields.)

Why This Build Then? Poppy has higher then normal base stats, her q has high base dmg: 115 (+0.8 AD) and 8% percent max hp. (Can deal 2 times as much). Her W gives her mobility and 15% more armor and magic res. (Has double the amount when she is 40% hp) This gives her vastly improved base tank stats. Not much with her e, besides that it is a strong combo with her q. (Try to hit walls of course) Her R will just be a quick escape or help in team fights. (Like is always has). With those stats + Death's Dance and Black Cleaver, she can burst out many carries and have stronger trades with fighters. This gives the enemy a reason to focus her, but due to her naturally higher tank stats, it would still take some time for her carries to dish out dmg of their own. If you bring a item 3193 then you can activate it after your burst, (e,aa,q,aa) so you can tank even more. Similar to Renekton. You are dealing dmg while tanking for your team.

Comparisons If Poppy went full tank, Ex:item 3068, item 3065, item 3111, item 3025, and item 3193 (What Riot Recommends) as core build.

  1. Extremely Tanky
  2. +500 Mana
  3. 30%CDR
  4. Decent Dmg/Burst
  5. No Armor Shread
  6. Low backline threat And then she went my build next game Ex: item 3812, item 3071, item 3047, item 3065 as core build.
  7. High tankyness
  8. Sometimes has mana problems
  9. 40% CDR
  10. Very High Dmg/Burst
  11. Armor Shread.
  12. High backline threat

Conclusion I recommend this build against matchups where you would normally lose due to enemy out-scaling. Examples would be Riven, and Camille. Mana Problems happen sometimes, but not enough to be a major issue. This build is similar to Riven due to item 3812 and item 3071 being core items. Remember: If your team needs a tank, THEN GO TANK. I highly recommend you practice with the build before you go into ranked. P.S. This Build is just a personal strategy that is strong into certain matchups.
