Need help picking easy mid laner!

Hi. I've been playing support for now 99.9% of time. But I wanna learn a couple champs for mid, in case I am being forced to play mid. What I need is:

Tanky champion - because I am very bad at positioning and somehow always end up in melee range and in a middle of team fight, even even I'm playing adc Trist with max range. I'm just not good at keeping distance.

Champion with good sustain - because I do not know how to trade poke, avoid poke or avoid skill shots. I always get poked down till death or till I'm forced to go back. Even when i'm playing as Lux against Garen, Garen always pokes me from distance (ya know what I'm saying?). I guess this directly ties into my very bad positioning I mentioned above.

Easy to play - a champion that is very simple and straight forward. I don't mind skill shots, I'm not bad at landing skill shots. But I don't want any kind of complicated game mechanics (like Elise or Nida for example, they have like 8 different skills what does different things, for both forms, it's very hard to memorize and keep track up for me, as well as learn how to use efficiently).

So far I've been playing Karthus. because I always tend to end up in middle of team fight and die I thought I might as well make most of it (Karthus E (Defile) and passive). But that's my only idea for now.

Please help. Ty!

What supports do you play? You might already have an "easy" champion capable of making the change. Morgana is the obvious example and she comes with some built in sustain. You might have to choose which of the features above are most important to you, though. Tank AND sustain AND easy to play on a champion suitable for mid lane is not going to be an easy combination to find. Maybe Gragas?

If you've noticed mechanical deficiencies in your play, it would probably be more worthwhile to see about fixing those while still playing the role you know. You can practice trading and positioning as support. Plus, as I mentioned, some support-capable champions are also appropriate for mid lane: Morgana, I already mentioned. Gragas is a very aggressive support but he works. Karma, Lux, Annie, and Orianna are all also capable of switch hitting.

If you played some support Vel'koz before jumping to mid Vel'koz and then Xerath, that might work for you. I know it doesn't fulfill your requirements, but it lets you play your comfort pick as you get used to playing mages and playing Xerath certainly encourages you to be nowhere near the front line. The only things that fulfill your requirement would be things like Kayle and Malphite, but neither of those is exactly a "classic" midlaner. Sure, they go there sometimes, but they're not the sterotypical midlaner. Actually, Gragas would probably fit your requirements. Swain is probably exactly what you're looking for but I've seen him once in my last hundred fifty games or so because he's not keeping up with the meta terribly well...

Also, if you play support that much, you should probably work on your CS'ing. I recommend taking a look at the following: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/tips-tricks/REhRbnEQ-for-those-who-want-to-improve-on-csing

Very few mids are tanky. This is because the lane is so short you can get to the tower easy and if you need to back it is much faster to get back to mid than any other lane. Swain is one exception. He can get pretty tanky, and has good sustain if you manage mana well. Gragas also used to be a popular mid who had sustain and some tankyness, but he mostly goes top now.

It might be best to learn how to do a different type of champ rather than finding a champ who first your style for every lane. Its the only way to get better really

is vlad no longer a good mid choice? that's the closest thing i can think of for fitting the tanky and good sustain requirements

If you want something tanky mid, go Galio. Step 1. Stack MR and AP Step 2. ... Step 3. PENTA KILL!

yeah from what you want swain sounds ideal. the other i'm thinking is vlad but he's more suited for top at this point. Also using health for mana may be an issue for you (although tides of blood and spellvamp fix that pretty well).

if you can get ur positioning up (which I highly suggest if u wanna play mid..or anywhere really) the easiest mage I can think of is Lux. Which is also part of why i hate her guts. But she'd also be good because of her ridiculously huge spell range. You'd stay safe without trying most of the time.

And if you're using Karthus I'd suggest the following: Save your ult for when you're dead and don't actually try to die...

Annie is a really easy to learn, easy to master champ, and she hits like a truck. She fits all of your criteria aside from lacking innate sustain (her intended build path makes her fairly tanky for a mage), and she's only 450 IP. She's also a good champ to teach you trading, as her AA range is pretty high and her Q is perfect for trading, as it's point-and-click.

Morg also comes to mind, as she's intended to build RoA, her passive gives her sustain and the only skillshot in her kit is her Q. She's a little hard to use effectively, though, especially if you don't have smartcasting turned on (lets you shield someone instantly), and you need to learn how to use her ult correctly, or you'll just kill yourself.

You probably won't find that many champs that perfectly fit your criteria. Good luck, though!

Swain.

Tanky, sustain, simple, mid lane. That's Kayle for you.

As a bonus she is also a support, so should appeal to you.

Start with Nashor's Tooth and you are good.
