The Maiden's Cry

Death sucks··3 votes·1,612 views

Last night in a rank game I witnessed something firsthand that I couldn't believe made it into League as a "finished and polished" rework:

The ability for a champion to completely destroy the fundamental kit of any other summoner with minions/placed objects.

For 7 seconds my Maiden and ghouls wondered top lane aimlessly while their master was getting his face demolished by a giant hammer as I was in complete shock that half of my entire character's kit was stripped away while another had full access to his. Never the less I continued the struggle of trying to come back from what ended up being a lost lane only to discover a new surprise:

Minions summoned while inside the Realm of Death die when the instance is closed by the duel ending regardless the outcome.

So tonight, armed with this information I borrowed my wife and had her join me for some 1v1s to test a few things, these are those results:

-Tibbers remains out of the RoD while Annie is in, if summoned before the duel is started. -Tibbers DIES if summoned while inside the RoD and lives to see the end of the duel.

-Illaoi tentacles summoned before entering the RoD are not invited. -Illaoi tentacles summoned while inside the RoD are destroyed upon duels end. -This includes her entire ultimate...

I'm going to make the same assumption for: -Heimer's turrets -Zyra plants -Malzahar voidlings -Azir sodiers -Moakai sapplings -ect

Not able to summon entities, but ordnance placed by these summoners: -Xayah feathers -Ziggs satchel and mines -Kait and Nid traps -GP Barrels -I'd mention Ivern bushes, but you can't hide from death. -ect

I could understand if Morde was a direct counter to one or even just a very small handful of champions, but this list is rather decent in size and not complete. It is also not just a counter, it's a complete removal of core mechanics for each of these summoners kits.

An argument could be made that Yass's windwall does something on a much smaller scale with projectiles, true, but he and it doesn't also completely remove you from your team and your core abilities. Sure, Camille's R does the first, but it doesn't kill summoner created pets/objects at completion, and each team can still assist the duelists.

No other form of crowd control introduced before this rework has stripped a player of so much at the cost of so little to another.

1300g for a QSS isn't the answer here. Neither is getting good.

In conclusion, my humble and probably unwanted opinion is: This was a poor design and over looked game flaw that shouldn't of made it past internal testing, let alone the PBE.

Cheers, -DS

Buy item 3140 .

Or buy item 3222 instead of spirit visage as your magic resist item, Mikael`s 20% heal and shields effect works just like spirit visage in terms of self healing and life steal / spell vamp.

(Im not sure if you can use mikaels on yourself to escape morde ult but its worth a try)

Or better yet, buy Both item 3222 and item 3065 if the enemy team has another magical damage dealer or two, the healing effects multiply together, yes morde e has pen, but that's the only 2 magic resist items youll need and they'll bring your self healing to 56%. (since they multiply together)

(IM NOT DISAGREEING WITH YOU, IM JUST GIVING YOU ANOTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTION THAT YOU CAN TRY)

You have clearly missed the entire point of this post and that I mentioned QSS. My issue isn't with how to deal with his ult. Thanks for the feed back though, someone may find it helpful.

He ults you and you use the active to go back to your minions/summons?

Having to buy items to counter specific champions is not a new thing.

Fiora item 3076

Amumu item 3102 lets you still safely group tightly with your team as long as you position properly and your team has the vision to deny him flanking.

Zed/Fizz/Rengar/Yi/etc item 3157

Being able to cleanse morde ult off of you and completely nullify its effects other than you and him effectively going untargetable/invisible for a split second is big, especially for how cheap mikaels and quicksilver are....and they are both magic resist items..

You are missing the point. It isn't about dealing with the ult. It is about what the ult does other then start a duel. It's about the fact that anyone playing a champ with minions/summons would be forced to buy a QSS to retain the ability to use their entire kit. Nothing else in this game has ever removed such large portions of another champions abilities before.

Suggesting that there isn't an issue and that the only thing anyone should do is just buy an item to counter the ult in the first place isn't correcting the seriousness of the issue. The ability to strip abilities away and insta kill Yorick's Maiden, Annie's Tibbers, or an entire Illoai ult is a problem.

At the same time though, a small amount of gold to completely counter the ult in the first place is kinda BS. If Death invites you to hell, you don't get out of going with a small bit of cloth.

There is a problem here, on both sides.

I think we are done here, I never suggested that there isn't an issue, im simply saying that needing to buy an item or type of item is perfectly acceptable,** I never said the consequences of not buying the item was okay.**

This is my point. My post isn't about items, if it is acceptable, or the consequences either way of buying them or not. It's about the mechanics of the ability, something you are failing to understand. Good day.

Morde's ult takes you to a completely different realm away from your allies. You're on a completely different map of Summoners Rift and nowhere near your allies. It strips you from your team, so if any summoned pets are out, they're not coming with you because you're not even in the same realm as them anymore. And I doubt Morde would willingly pull Tibbers or 5 Illaoi tentacles into the Death Realm with you when he's trying to separate you from everything to kill you.

"Units between realms see each other as spirits, considering each other dead and negating any interactions between the two. Only the target and Mordekaiser will enter the realm, other champions cannot follow them. Everything that occurs inside the Death Realm is hidden, and all non-champion pets still inside are destroyed at the end."

That's his spell description. Note how it says only Morde and the target enter the realm? Tibbers is not the target, neither are Illaoi's tentacles nor plants or feathers. Therefor, they will not be dragged into the Death Realm with you. Similar concept if you survive. They didn't get dragged in with you, so they're not being spat out if you survive.

Also, Morde uses a mace as a weapon. Not a hammer.

Yes, this is instance shifting and it is nothing new in modern gaming.

Willingness and balance are two different things.

I am aware of the spell description and it instead reads: "Mordekaiser drags his victim to a different dimention with him and steals a portion of their stats. If he kills them, he keeps the stats until the victim respawns.

Directly from the client, collection, champion, abilities, R - Realm of Death.

The flavorful text you have provided has no source and is not the spell description on the client or in game?

It does not say anything about revoking minor or major parts of another champions abilities, only stealing of stats, and that is for a limited time if he kills them. It says nothing about anything I listed above as not being "invited". However, this post was to serve as my opinion that this is wrong and breaks game balance drastically, not what something says. I am arguing that this is bad game design and I do not agree that it should remain as is and should be fixed.

Clearly others disagree as a matter of principle because it's new, it's Morde, and it's awesome looking.

Yes, it is in fact a mace, but let's not split nails over bludgeoning weapons. Neither of us are the King of Clubs and it was my face being mashed in.
