New tool to prevent 4v5 games

I think that it would be a good idea for Riot to implement a tool on the home screen that would allow you to see your latency before you entered a game. This way you could better judge if you should enter into a game or not.

Youre a Genius, that would help greatly

Probably impossible in the current client. The client is so disconnected from the game itself that there's probably no way for it to gather the information needed to determine what your ping would be in-game.

Your boss being an idiot has no bearing on how the LoL client works.

I agree he is an idiot sometimes. But it doesnt mean Riot shouldnt try lol

Agreed, in programming almost anything is possible. My understanding is you are connecting to the server when you log in, so it should be able to track latency between the two.

Communicating with the server to get your account data and communicating with the server to get the events of a game between 9 other people are completely different things. Ping between games can vary wildly depending on a number of factors. I regularly find that I'll play some games at a normal ping of around 70 and then go into a co-op v ai game and have 300 with nothing I can do to resolve it.

They're working on a new client atm.

Even if they could add this feature, they'll probably look into it after the upgrade.

I didn't know that they were, I wish they could see my idea haha

Here is the thing, that wouldn't help all 4v5s, it would help a good chunk, but there will always be those douche bags that afk

True, but nothing can be done about douche bags... :(

  1. press win+r
  2. type "cmd.exe", press Enter
  3. type "ping -t google.com", press Enter

True, but the reason it would be a good tool, is convenience.

so people well never be able to move up because Riot is lazy? How great.

Another problem is, your latency isn't always consistent. I could very well load into game with perfectly fine ping, only to have it spike mid way through.

Likely, what ever causes the latency is a slow up in the network link between server and client. (More or less assuming you have control of your own wifi.) Likely, that kind of problem can't be fixed from either from the user's end, or from Riot end. (At least not software side.)
