Swain questions for riot

I'm curious about a few things Riot. I have played more games on swain then any other champ. I will say he's strong as a lane opponent but still has weaknesses. Last hitting is difficult but not impossible. His q acts as a slow but the tether can easily be broken. His E and R are where most of his power is for damage. W just makes sure swain can catch the enemy to unleash a full combo. I don't mind scaling the w snare time as much since late game it will still be back to 2 seconds. I do think the nerf was a bit uncalled for though. Swain overall is balanced. He is not a champ that see's play because of his weakness. He has no wave clear and for that reason alone will never see the light of day in competitive play. He also suffers from extreme mana costs that most other champs besides maybe 1 or two others. ( Anivia + kassadin ). If this nerf goes through can swain be compensated with some base ad to help with last hitting? Or can his ult do bonus damage to minions much like a fiddle sticks dark wind ability to allow some bit of wave clear, still with a cost of ramping mana.

I just have a hard time understanding why swain who is very rarely played. Is nerfed even if by a slight amount when Yas, leesin, and others that are strong, and in my opinion have some what loaded kits compared to other champs don't get nerfs and most likely buffs. Swain was made borderline strong only due to the fact of the new keystone masteries. That's all, yet we also see Yas became extremely strong with the same keystone masteries but no nerfs happened with him or tryn. I think the balance team really should take a step back and look at who they are nerfing and why they are nerfing a champion. The problem should have been solved by fixing the keystone masteries first instead of hitting a balanced champion. I don't think the swain nerf is going to make that big of a change for swain but the anivia nerfs will make a large difference. Just would love to have a detailed explination as to why riot is targeting champs that only a small % of people actually play vs other champs that are in some ways broken and anti-fun to play against in lane.

  • He's not weak and he's never been weak
  • he's clearly OP right now
  • his mana costs are entirely appropriate for counterplayless point and click harass
  • they just nerfed SS because it was OP.

Also, lern2paragraph.

I didn't call him weak, I said he has weaknesses. Such as Malzahar who can push swain into tower and swain losses cs, or heimer. Swain is a strong lane bully but has no wave clear. Junglers camping swain early before lvl 6 can put him severely behind. Swain is a difficult match up to go against. But there are ways to kill him or make him useless. The thing that's making swain an even stronger lane bully is only the deathfire touch keystone. Yet Yas is still extremely strong with the Warlord's Blood lust yet no nerfs to his kit happened and he was also considered strong before preseason.

Swain doesn't auto win lane and can be ganked. Also Yasuo.

  1. Well goody goody gumdrops, it's possible to hurt or beat him. That doesn't mean he's not OP.
  2. They hotfixed warlord's and just gave Stattik Shiv, Yasuo's core rush item, an appropriate nerf. He's down to acceptable win percentages and also HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT.

ok, so why do you think he's op? Or do you just like to hop into threads and insult people with learn to paragraph? If you want to talk cool I'd love to hear why you think he's Op. I think he's strong but he has weaknesses that people don't exploit. His w is a root, people can still attack during those 2 seconds. Some such as LB, trist if they are quick enough can even jump away before they get rooted completely. I'd actually be ok with E becoming a skill shot if Q's tether is changed to be harder to be broken. I bring up yas because I'm honestly curious about riots balancing of the game period. So If Riot deems to come in and answer some questions I'd be happy to hear their explination.

I honestly do not see how they could be nerfing Swain from a balance standpoint. It just is not justified to do it a champion with so much counterplay. The reason that people get mad about him in lower ELOs is because of his point and click abilities, but that is in no way a reason to make him weaker than other champions. WIthin itself, it has drawbacks to not be a skill shot because then it loses viability in many situations. The big comparison that I would look at is someone like Zed who is mechanically nearly impossible to be perfect with, but yet they still had nerfed his balanced state on his most challenging plays to make with the one second buffer before traveling back to his ult shadow. I know people are going to say that I am flamming by me saying this, but the reason why Riot does things like this is because above all, they are in it to make as much profit as they can. That is why they keep making the kits of newer champions overloaded as they are also more expensive and why they are looser with nerfs towards the less popular champions. It is a bit sad to see my favorite champ fall victim to business mentality.

"Point and Click" abiltiies also have a tendency to become less powerful in the jungle. Skillshots can hit in the fog of war, point and click spells can't be used if you can't see the target.

I just don't get it, swain has mana, long cool downs, he has to buy so many stats. Same issues that anivia has except she can clear waves which swain can't. Swain doesn't even has hard cc aka stun, fear, knockup. You can camp him, executioners calling, Morello's, ignite. Sure it doesn't stop his damage but cuts his sustain by a great amount. I think the issue is people just aren't used to going up against him because he isn't played by many. Those that do play him and figure him out he's strong but not unbeatable. I do understand he's strong with the keystone but nerf the keystone not him. Or be fair and nerf other champs that are extremely strong with keystones. Or if you do nerf swain then give him something to compensate for all his weaknesses. I do hope Riot takes a look at swain in the immobile mage rework. Him and Anivia I'd like see worked on some.
