Opinion on Syndra?

Let me introduce my own opinion on her:

I picked her up a long time ago, spring 2014 or even autumn/summer 2013 and she was pretty much my most successful midlaner during S4 (80% win rate or so) and went to Gold by maining her. Over the autumn/winter of 2014 she got more attention and also picked in the LCS several times, causing a nerf to follow in January 2015, which lowered her Q damage a bit (which made it probably the spell with the lowest lvl 1 damage value, but still has only a 4 second base cooldown, so focused mainly on nerfing her 1v1 deathbattles) and adjusted the knockback of her E, which then caused it to go derp and had to be fixed over several patches, which is the reason why I stopped playing her so much.

After the stun was adjusted several times again, I picked her up over the last month's a couple of times, but I was disapointed by the results, not because of unrelyable hitboxes, but because it has become really difficult to actually hit something. The main reasons are probably:

  • That people now actually know what her abilities are after her popularity half a year ago and also learned that they should stop sitting in front of her sphere when she is about to hit lvl 6
  • That there are a lot more mobility-increasing aspects in the game. Some small, for the most part unnoticed changes like the introduction of Luden's Echo, giving many of the common opponents a tad bit more movementspeed, things like the Skarner rework or the Ahri Q buff, where the old champions got more movementspeed implemented into their kit
  • aaaaand most importantly, new champions. Try killing a decent Kalista in a gold-ranked-game during a teamfight. You'll probably miss at least 75% of your abilities, so targeting her with skillshots that have a cast time like Syndra's Q or Karthus Q on a Kalista is pretty much pointless. Similar thing with Ekko, but hitting meele Champions with dashes/gapclosers with Syndra's stun was always difficult, because they could move around Syndra more easily once close and change the facing angle so that the Dark Sphere is not in their line. And hitting an enemy champion mid-dash is almost as difficult too.

The last 2 aspects are also hitting many other casters like Anivia, Zyra, Cassiopeia etc.

But when facing unexperienced foes with Syndra, it is still possible to completely obliterate them, because they do not use much movementspeed or mobility abilities to outplay Syndra or dodge the abilities at all, but yeah ... in that situation you could also pick some other snowball champion as well ...

And I do not consider her lategame to be good, she does a huge amount of damage at that point, but most other currently popular mages can do that as well or even better and more relyable (Viktor/Annie/Lux/Orianna/Ahri, etc.), but I don't see that many options to make her lategame more relyable, that's mostly a teamcomposition thing. Therefore she can pick up enemy champions during the midgame quite easily due to her powerspikes from maxing out Q and reaching the levels 6/11.

Tldr: Imo Syndra isn't a relyable champion due to multiple things, main reason being more mobility champions or easier accessable movementspeed for many, leaving her in a rather unfortunate spot, where she can't be helped that easily without making her unbalanced, causing many other champions to be a more valuable pick for her role as burstmage (hell even Veigar gets more attention, not that I don't like seing Veigar having some play). Now I would like to hear your opinion.

TL;DR version of Syndra right now:

High risk, low reward

no reason to pick her when viktor and veigar do more or less the same burst while having better stuns and better sustained damage.

Exactly, I just played a game against a Veigar, I had a perfect set up for my ult and I did arround 900 damage. He simply presses R and deals 1700 damage. And his ult is even instant, Syndra's need to connect all the balls to the target first, its redicilous. There's absolutely no reason to pick Syndra competitivly. And the fact that Riot simply buffs other champs right away ( Veigar, Lux etc ) and does nothing with Syndra makes me even more mad. There are simply other champions who deal more damage and are more safer/mobile. It really pisses me off that Riot doesn't see this. And I'm not even talking about her Q damage early on, its the worst Q ability a midlaner can have in terms of damage per mana. But yea she's a Extreme risk low reward champion.

As a Syndra main, I admit she needs a little love right now, but I still stomp the vast majority of my matchups.

The biggest thing she needs is a little more damage back on her early game Q and a change to either her W or E max rank passives to make them a little more impactful

I still and always will pick syndra and love every second we destroy lanes together. Regardless of if she gets buffs or not.

Buff her Q base damage and mana cost, reduce her W cost, and buff up her passive which is not interesting, and totally a drag for maxing R.

She packs a ton of burst and has an aoe slow and stun.

I think she's still pretty useful. Not top tier currently, but most immobile mages are not top tier right now.

I enjoy her, but she's both less reliable and weaker than just playingAnnie, so why bother with Syndra.
