Tank's Meta and New Runes

Ten FPS··1 votes·4,195 views

I came from a game with my main account and i want to ask so many questions as the days goes by, using the new runes. Many people say that now the game is balanced somehow. Well lets see... After i saw cho gath on enemy team i thought of picking jax. I had a lot of days to play this match up and i remember from old games that jax goes well vs cho gath. I could even say that jax is completly counter to that tank. But season 8 is here and a lot of things changed. Counters has changed. We started on top lane. It surprised me that he took first blood by going insta-agro in the lane AND inside my minion wave with only a dorans shield. What could i do? Who runs back at lvl 1 when someone is fighting you inside your wave? So i stay to fight him and i was dead in a few seconds and he was almost full hp. Cho gath at elder patches had hp regen. Also from his passive. But now the things are changed. He gains hp :

  1. From his passive
  2. His E
  3. And of course from new "op" runes. (like everyone say) I decide to farm up and ignore him. But he was able to cut half of my hp just with E. Anyway at lvl 5 i had some damage and he had only a catalyst. That means : i came back to lane with rised stats (building damage) and he had a catalyst (no damage, no ability power. Just Hp and Mana). Guess what happened? Level 6 with 1.4k Hp and i was a snack with not-even 900 hp. Untill the end i was 3 hits (even with E or ult activated) 1 Q and 870 true damage from his ult. So that means he didn't have to fight me. He could just auto me and ult me. There are so many examples to mention, so many cases, matchups. I see youtubers playing games and showing the new runes system. At the end all of them are like "Thanks for watching guys, i suggest you to try this champ-this runes, its really really fun" My questions are : Where's the fun? What can you do in such games when you cant even aproach to gain the exp (not to mention what happens if you get close) You build damage - you have 0 damage. They build Hp - they almost oneshot you by casting one time their spells. Just with their base stats growth. Where's the balance? Im not having fun by looking this. I dont see anything "funny" when a champ like this can "win" you. I dont think that something is "funny" when im losing and somehow when im winning (most of the times at least).

Maybe don't fight him level one...

? Jax is at best against melee champions at level 1, provided he takes E first (which is pretty much mandatory). He should actually look to trade Cho.

Anyway, for OP : New runes didn't change the Jax vs Cho matchup, a good cho is still a pain and his ult is stupidly strong. Resolve runes aren't that powerful, though they're good on cho because they give lots of health aka more damage on ult. Cho's E doesn't grant HP. Only grasp, overgrowth and R stacks do.

Catalyst is a decent buy btw, health, regen aren't supposed to make him weak, and cho scales pretty bad with offensive stats and pretty well with defensive stats. Though I agree it's kinda bullshit he can somewhat duel Jax in a 1v1.

Oh well... in any case.. Damage is not in a weak spot right now. It's actually overpowered and needs nerfs. It caused game time to drop and games to feel impossible to come back from.

With his R only, up to 6 times on minions/non epic minions

I think he means the rune that gives you HP if you stand near dying minion. (Although everyone I think takes second wind.)

Not permanent hp and mana. We were meaning permanent max health gain. Also it's a 4 months old thread, in case you didn't see.

First - let me add the disclaimer that as a top laner I think I understand that timid or bursty/squishy junglers can make almost all attempts to counter no-escape, hard-scaling monster champs ineffective if they get ahead. Lane phase can be almost hopeless by 3:00.

I think OP's problem might extend from thinking Jax is a great level 1 stand-and-bang duelist. He's good if his passive is stacked and you avoid whatever ability is sent your way (I.e. trade not all-in vs an enemy with a 40% HP advantage) , but there's dozens of champs he can't just stand and bang with. Post-being eaten (for OP), since you know his ult is true damage and you'll be farming under tower, so you want HP and don't want titanic pushing the wave. Is this a steraks situation?

I'm actually asking, not being cheeky. Aside from correcting the lvl 1 dueling ability, idk. Sheen first for kill potential during a gank into steraks? Second dorans blade into triforce for less HP but CDR and roaming/jungle potential?

Idk. If I think about this matchup it seems Bella annoying as Jax when behind. But if I think about it from Chos perspective, I might win hard if I get an early lead, but killing a Jax under tower is a pita if he's good with ward hopping and stuns.

And also from the chos perspective, if I've got Jax under tower, where's the enemy jungler? I have no escapes and IMO the downfall of cho is this when coupled with his innate wave-shoving.

Idk I'm Silver so take it all with a grain of salt, but at lvl 3-5 if Jaxs passive is half-stacked I'd be hesitant to Q because he could likely jump on my face to dodge it, dodge my auto-reset, and my silence won't counter his ability to orbwalk me into oblivion. And I don't expect many Q's to land. He helicopters through the wave and starts beating my face, I can Q to save HP but there goes 1/4 of my mana and Jax Qs back to a minion and continues farming. Repeat until I cri.

As Jax, maybe miss some cs and use positioning to bait a couple Qs and make him cho'ke on his lack of mana?

Is who gets a kill before 1st back determined more by the blue bar and not the red?

And ofc, if you start to struggle in top and fear the 1v2 ability of your opponent, you can ask the jg "He's kind of a monster up here, can I take krugs/gromp?" That's worth about 4-8cs and reminds the jg that you exists and informs them that you're struggling without any kind of blame being directed at a possibly easily-tilted jungler.

I would never imagine someone say "dont fight with jax at level 1". First, i didn't start the fight. Second, HE started the fight inside my wave. The thing that drives me crazy (and i wish riot could see this) is that some tanks specially like cho, maokai etc, they healing from AA more than the damage you deal to them! Can you imagine that? And that happens when they dont have any special item. You build damage and they heal x4 times more than the damage they take + from the minion waves. Now i believe those who saying, posts like this (about the mechanics, balance etc) are being ignored from most people. In forums, in reddit and other sites. Who wants to start conversations like this anyway? They are all busy with more important things like how "super" new skins looks like...

i cant say like the others that the game with the new patch is "adc's op" or "tanks op" etc. its kinda weird. i mean when we say "adc's now are pretty strong" we dont mean "ALL". The easiest adc's are just more stronger now. (vayne, jhin mostly) And some others are remaining to the bottom with the lowest win rate
