Viability of adcs in mid

How many adcs can mid reliably? I would assume those with good escape abilities but who has the best escapes?

Ezreal, Tristana, Lucian. Graves is probably bulky enough to survive. Twitch is risky but can work.

Remember, being able to survive Syndra and Orianna are the requirements to lane mid.

The thing with taking an ADC mid is that you have to poke out the other mid-laner with autos before they can get going. Mid lane champions are primarily spell-slingers, and when we've only got one spell and it's on cooldown, we're wide open for counter attacks.

The general rule of thumb is that mages are more level dependent than ADC's. This is why the meta pairs ADC's with supports and sends mages midlane solo. Pushing a mage back far enough that they can't get XP will cause them to be pretty far behind unless their jungler can come and gank for them.

Many mages have ranged poke, so you'll want to either be able to avoid it with a mobility spell, or poke right back with a ranged harass of your own. Maybe both.

What is this Season 1?

Lol. But yeah, DrCyanide hit it right on the dot. Back in S1, it was Solo-mid with ADC's. Because we all thought they needed to "farm." But when we realized that Mages are more Level dependant and too squishy for the other lanes, we put them in mid.

Then we realized that Support Champions work great with an ADC in the bottom lane. It allows them to farm while getting sustained by their support. Of course the Support game has changed over time with Rito changes, and summoners wanting to change the meta for the seasons.

Answering on who has the best escapes, it's Ezreal. Ezreal has a blink that deals free damage to an enemy that's close enough.

Sivir and Caitlyn also stand a chance in mid lane. They both have reliable ranged harass and escape abilities. Caitlyn's net allows her to knock herself back and slow incoming junglers, and Sivir's spell shield can eat an inbound CC for her so she can run to tower. Sivir's shield also allows her to eat Syndra/Ori bursts by nullifying one of the spells involved and giving her mana for it.
