I can't be good with Riven

Hey, i recently got level 30 btw. So i've bought Riven almost a week ago now, since then, i've been playing her nonstop. I lose every single game when i play her(except a 2-3 wins and wins against bots). I don't know what i do wrong but i always lose top, and then the game. I've been playing her nonstop, read a ton of guides over and over, asked my friends for advices, tried my own strategies and nothing ever worked. Everyone seems good with her, everytime there is a good Riven in the game, they say they got her the day before and they do a lot of kills and a really low amount of deaths, i own her for almost a week, and i still suck. I don't get it, i've been feeding to every game, even though i practiced a lot with her.

At the rare times i did a positive kda, we lost the game, of course, but i was happy, thinking that i've finally became good with her. Everytime this happened, i've been destroyed by a ton of defeats after, i didn't became good, didn't understood anything about what was happening. Everytime, this was just an illusion, it always just made me happy before getting defeated again and again, destroying me even more. I kept on through these defeats, repeating to myself that i could do it, and that i wouldn't give up, that at a time i would get the thing, that i would be good. But it never happened, and i'm still feeding everytime and always making my team lose.

Guides and people told me to play safe until level 3, that's what i try to do, but against ranged champions i can't do anything. They take 1/5 of my hp only with one single AA at the beginning, so i can't cs, can't level up, lose top early and lose the game. Guides say to use bushes, but first, i can't get near the bushes, because the ranged enemy champ will destroy me, and second, he will see me enter the bushes.

I simply can't trade without taking more than 1 hit, even at level 3 with my stun, shield and dash. Plus i don't even do a lot of damage, they do more damage when i try to back off than what i actually inflict, and this happens to melee champs too. I don't get why i can't do damage, i got items, i do the correct combos, i have the correct level, but i get destroyed over and over again and can't damage the enemy without getting twice the damage i did.

Guides say to do an all in combo only if i'm sure to kill my opponent, but how in hell am i supposed to know that?

I die a lot from the jungler ganking, even more expanding the level gap that is created every game between me and the enemy laner.

Also tried jungling, still, i don't get what i do wrong and fall behind, feed and lose the game.

I am seriously thinking about giving up and refunding her. Everyone says that she needs time and patience, but everyone is good with her in one day, and i still suck after one week. I know that it's not that she isn't my type of champion. I want to be good with her, i really want to, but i don't get it, i tried everything, this is just stupid, i don't understand what i am doing wrong. Why am i always dying? Why am i always losing? Why can't i simply have a positive kda? Why can't i trade? Why can't i win top? Why can't i follow the level flow when jungling? Why can't i win? Why can't i be good with Riven?

sigh

Sorry for writing so much about a random problem that me, a random player that no one cares about, is having. Maybe you'll just pass your way and forget what i writed, but please, if any of you got any solutions for any of the problems i'm having with Riven, please, take some time to write that soluton, i would really appreciate, since it's a champion that i really want to be good with.

Eh... i'm sure the answers are dumb and stupid... But at least i'll know them.

Thank you for reading this topic.

The best thing you can do for yourself is learn learn learn learn and practice practice practice

You can't brute force her, you have to learn and practice.

/R Rivenmains for all your Riven needs.

Riven is just tough. You either stomp or you get stomped, there's no middle ground. Just keep playing her in norms, watch some streams or YouTube videos, and play some more. Check out BoxBox, Revenge, Viper, or BestRivenNA. I know Box has a set of tutorial videos, not sure about the others, but they definitely have gameplay videos.

Riven is my highest mastery champion, been playing her for years, and I STILL get my ass beat regularly. It just comes with the champ.

Riven is the hardest champion in the game in my opinion. You will need more than 50 games before considering yourself "ok" at her.

You just reached level 30. you are so new at the game still. Riven is a "high skill cap" champion. I would suggest you master other champions first.

if you're pigheaded and still want to stick with riven :) then you need to study good ones, not just keep banging your ahead against a wall. Since youare SO new, I would personally guess it would take approximately: 100 games to be "not new"

  • 20 hours of carefully watching youtubers like boxbox play riven.. AFTER the 100 games..
  • 100 games AFTER the 20 hours of study.

then you might begin to be decent at riven.

For my own story; i decided to main ahri as my first champ. I was terrible at her :D I had to do builds geared purely at keeping me alive. only after hundred(s) of games on her, did I start finally clicking with things like knowing my spell ranges well enough to smartcast, plus various combos, plus knowing where to position myself, plus all the gazillion other things you need to know, to be a good player. And ahri is a relatively FORGIVING champ. She has lots of escapes.

With riven, you have to have near-perfect positioning, ALL THE TIME. Or you're dead. That only comes from hundreds of games worth of experience.

Final tip: memorize the few places you can wallhop with riven and get it so you can use them in your sleep.

Don't waste your refunds on her, you only get 3 for the accounts life time.

try the CC canceling stuff before it's removed.

Don't be afraid to ask for help from the jg, it can help a lot if you're struggling.

In ranged matchups, only go for cs you can get safely. Never take more than 1 auto if you can.

Go into custom games and practice mixing auto's between Q's and eventually Fast Q combo.

Reddit.com/r/rivenmains is your best friend for learning this champion. Go ahead and ask some questions in the stickied thread. Almost everyone who starts playing riven gets rekt at first so don't worry, it takes practice.

Keep punching a wall. Eventually the fists get hard but the wall falls apart. - Shaolin.

Keep trying my friend. Study, practice, experiment.

Riven is the hardest champion in the game to master so of course you're not going to have success with her if you're a newish player.

I suggest playing other champs to learn the game first and then you can try to learn riven, but know that it takes a lot of dedication and ton of practice/riven games before you can even start feeling "decent" at riven, even more for you to start carrying games and actually dealing with the meta/broken picks that counter her (like poppy and jayce).
