Hello everyone I've been playing League of Legends for 3 years on and of and just resonantly started playing ranked, the very first time ever played league I played with Garen, he was in the free rotation. I've stuck with Garen ever since, do you all think I could go far with Garen? people see my pick of Garen and kinda laugh its a meme and troll pick kinda lol the whole spin to when thing but I take Garen seriously what do you yall think? and i also pick ignite/heal with Garen for over kill and it aways kinda seems to work out most top laner's take teleport and flash but if i can kill them by lvl 6 with ignite plus ult i scale pretty much the whole game..

I think the highest ranked Garen main is Master, not Challenger.

Diamond is ezpz, but higher than that and you really gotta abuse everything he's got.

New runes have been sort of nice to Garen, giving him really powerful in-combat healing. Only bummer is he can't abuse Aftershock, so he's forced to take Grasp of the Undying for Resolve keystone.

Would anyone take aftershock over grasp on Garen anyway...?

Tank-haters like to spew about "aftershock abuse" but the truth is that at least for toplane grasp seems to do at least equally as good.

Garen has conditional tankiness in his W. HIs base defensive stats were stripped bare after numerous nerfs so being able to get 30% extra tankiness + burst damage would be exactly what he needs because his current standard battle tactic is to go in, soak up as much CC and damage as you can handle, spin to chunk them down (and maybe kill one of them), then walk out ALIVE to activate your insane passive. Aftershock would be perfect for this.

It wouldn't even be a contest, if only Garen could activate Aftershock at all.

Can't tell if trolling, but if you are not, then my answer to you is no.

For two reasons. One, not taking Flash, especially on champion with no mobility spells, won't get you anywhere above Gold. Two, Garen is a champion that is easy to carry with at Bronze or Silver, but starting Gold and higher, you will be having a lot of trouble, not only carrying a game, even having a decent laning phase.

Garen is just noob trap. He is a champion whose abilities are directly damage related, and has almost 0 CC (just a slience) and 0 mobility. This means that he 1) does a lot of damage 2) becomes extremely tanky, but that's about it. What this essentially means is that if you fight Garen in his strong points, he will destroy you. If you fight him at his weak points, he is just trash, and the higher you climb, the more people will fight you when it favors them, and the thing is, there is nothing you can really do about it.

What I mean by strong and weak points? Well, I'll explain.

Garen, as I said above, is a champion who lacks mobility and CC and only deals damage in melee distance and gets tanky. This means that if you poke him from a distance, he can't do anything. If you dash away when he tries to engage on you, he can't reach you. If you CC him, he can't escape. These are his weak points and this is how enemies will take advantage of you. Picking Gnar, Olaf are good examples of easily exploiting his weaknesses, or simple picking champions who outscale him like Jax will do the trick and people in higher elo know this.

In lower elo, people are stupid, though, which is why Garen works well there. People will just try to fight you all the time under any circumstances and just try to jump on you. That's where Garen is strong. Since he needs to be in melee distance to deal damage and he can't reach the enemy, this is all he wants; an enemy going melee distance FOR HIM. Since he has way too much damage to compensate the lack of CC and mobility, he will then just outdamage and kill you.

Tl;dr. Garen is noob friendly and a noob trap. Easy to get out of Bronze and maybe Silver, but anything above that will make you hate your games as Garen. Imagine being in a teamfight and the enemy having an Ashe and a Janna. YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO MOVE.

You do not know what you are talking about , never post again.

Why the fuck do you respond in a 2 year old comment? Also, I know what I'm talking about, but you wouldn't know, since you are probably silver at best.

You can get to challenger with anything. However since you main garen you will have an easier time with other champions. Mainly because you probably have insane gamesense but a lack of champion ability.

I think it's just that it's a lot easier to play against him for better players, mainly poking him down and such. IDK, if you're good enough, then you can do it :D (But like the other guy said, maybe learn a more mechanically-oriented champion so you can have good mechanics and the great game knowledge that you probably picked up by playing Garen. Good luck tho <3

As long as you ban Vayne, I don't se why not. Unless you aren't a challenger quality player of course.

In addition to above comment about flash, in higher elo like diamond+ or even plat people will keep abusing you for not having teleport. You should never neglect teleport, unless 1) you have spellbook and eventually get teleport 2) other teammate has a teleport. On low elo ppl always don't use teleport to it's full potential. Imagine your botlane is almost about to die because enemy jungler is coming, but if you tp they will likely survive or even win teamfight if enemy engages. And vice versa while enemy toplaner can teleport to bot and kill your botlane (if situation allows) you are absolutely useless. Also in late/ mid late game owners of teleport should be the one splitpushing on other side of contested obejctive (eg Baron). With no teleport enemies will easily abuse it by starting and high likely getting Baron and killing your team.

If you have a team sorta built to helping you our. Basically a support and jungle with lots of lockdown or distractions so you can just run at them.

You can get far, but you need a team.
