LoL's "Broken" Uber Carries - By Design or Design Flaw?

Check out the discussion post on BaicunnPress. Some Interesting ideas here. Food for thought.

I would really like to see some discussion going on there, in the comments.

This article is so pointless. It could be summed up as "Some champions are hyper carries late game- I think that's okay!"

Okay? And?

"Urban Dictionary defines "broken" as something or someone that is so good in a particular context that it eclipses second place"

"Guys, Master Yi is “broken”...an ARAM game they had where his team had managed to control the opposing Yi until mid game, keeping him at a paltry 1/13. Well, eventually Yi started living through their CC long enough to steamroll the rest of the game, and wound up going something like 17/14 by the end."

You won't mind if I completely disagree? Not really a champion's fault the author thinks a pubstomper is good vs them, or that (surprise surprise!) champions with resets do great in ARAMs when you don't actually focus them.

Urban Dictionary defines "broken" as something or someone that is so good in a particular context that it eclipses second place. Why does League of Legends let broken characters in game?

Can we really say that any champ is broken by this definition or are we simply going on opinions as to whether or not a champion is broken?

The ARAM match was just the most recent example, as it was a fresh thought. Also, you have to pay attention to the "broken" part. If you read the rest of the post, the author goes on to disagree with the idea that some champs are broken because they carry.

No, the author goes on to say "lol there's tropes of unstoppable badasses therefore league having literally unstoppable people is fine". Huge difference (especially since it is rather false; timing cc and bursting someone down works on everyone except a really fed tank. And if it IS a really fed tank you can usually ignore them).

Tbh I'm not sure Nautilus or Taric COULD beat someones face in. Once Naut's shield is gone he just kinda bumbles around hoping his short root and slows help, and Taric is...Taric.

If you ignore Nautilus, then his shield doesn't pop, and then he proceeds to put his debuff on every member of your team around and you are taking dot damage not only from yourself but from your allies which adds up quickly.

Taric is a very late game fighter, like four to five items late game. But when he hits it, he hits like a truck. Sheen procs on nearly every auto attack, his cdr passive letting him spam abilities every other second. Taric becomes a catch 22, you could try to ignore Taric to go for the carry that is killing your team, but you would die long before you could kill them due to Taric now being able to chunk you for massive health with just a W, auto attack.

Eh, not quite. A tl;dr of the article.

Looking at the lore behind LoL, it’s a given that some of these champions would require an entire team to kill them. That part of the lore spills out into the game play through these “broken” champs. I don’t mind the OP champions. You just have to strategize around them and hope it works.

Honestly, if you went by lore, Renekton would easily be able to 1v5 early game and has led to a few people theorizing that champions actually have spell on them limiting their power. Similarly, Cho'Gath or Mordekaiser would easily frighten all but the most insane or powerful of champions into running for their lives.

While there are numerous strong champs in the game and some need more counter play options, there are a lot less "broken" champs in the game. Pre-rework Sion and Soraka Then there are current examples Taric Urgot Poppy

Claims that Lee Sin or Zed being broken are massively exaggerated. You can fight an unfed Zed or Lee Sin and potentially win, if you have two or more of your team then you have a high probability of getting a kill. Pre-nerf, any of the champs I listed would crush lane, trying to gank them was near impossible because you'd end up giving them a double kill. THAT is broken, something that simply cannot be balanced in it's current form.
