Well, maybe lol. I'm no twisted fate main but here goes.
Rod of Ages :is a really good scaling item. It provides you with decent sustain if you get catalyst early. With the hp making you tanky, and the mana getting rid of the need for sustain, and the high ap scaling, it's a pretty good overall item.
Lich bane: I would say this is a core item on him. You have the means to proc its sheen passive. and its synergy with his kit is nice. Gives you cdr and movement speed which are damn nice on tf.
Ludens Echo: I'd say it's the same as lich bane. The passive that it provides will proc with your W a long with the sheen, a long with his E ability passive (99% sure all of this is true) granting a shit ton of burst. the movement speed is also pretty good. Can't do damage if you can't reach your target.
Boots of lucidity: they provide cdr, along with summoner spell cdr which is damn nice. You can also add the boot enchantment that further reduces summoner spell cdr. More flashy plays huh? but yeah, cdr is pretty good on tf.
Void staff: this provides 35% magic penetration. As it implies, it's pretty damn good with targets building Magic resist. If it's a team full of 5 squishies with 0 magic resist items, i would reconsider it.
Death cap: this item increases ability power by 35%. This is a pretty good item once you have built a good amount of ap. I wouldn't recommend rushing it, let a lone as a first item. so somewhere in your 5/6th item choice.
Abyssal: This is an item you want to build if you need the magic resist. It also provides a good amount of ap, while reducing theirs by 20(within an area, hover the item to find out the range) . It's overall a good offensive and defensive item. Learn when you think it's the best time to build it, if at all.
Zhonyas: this is a pretty core item throughout every mage. It provides armor, 120 ap, and a pretty nice active that puts you in stasis, preventing anything from hurting/touching you. Laning against an ad opponent? seekers, which is a component of zhonyas, should be enough, until you feel like you want to finish it.
Build according to the situation. What does their team do? Who are you laning against?
There's plenty of guides out there that you can learn a lot more from. maybe even watching other Twisted fate players.
But anyways, hope i helped.
