Hecarim top?

I was wanting to try top since it seems like it would be pretty good. I know awhile ago it was played, but I am not sure why it was stopped being played. Is it any good anymore?

It was mostly stopped from Jungle changes and Crystalline flask being removed. Only buy Crystalline flask>get a jungle camp at lvl 1 to get lvl 2 and gold>back to base grab Tier 1 boots>TP top>Rekface.

are mana problems the main reason it isnt played?

More like counterpick problems/no range. He cant close the distance as fast and disengage as when he started flask/boots to be as aggressive. They also took his ignore minion collision from his passive denying his freedom of movement to make favorable trades.

Im not saying hes bad top lane just not as good as he once was.

Now that he can't walk through minions his trading ability was seriously damaged. He's not that good top lane anymore.
