But he surely is underpowered. And at least for me completely unplayable.
As an Aatrox main, I really do think he needs a buff or something that will make him a bit stronger. As a champion, his kit is very good and has lots of potential. Early game I find that my moves do more damage to myself than the enemy champion and because his only form of harass takes his HP down so much he is easily countered by lane bullies like Teemo and Lulu. A good start would be reducing the damage he takes from his moves so he can at least stay in lane longer before recalling. Also his stats... They certainly aren't the best. The only ways you can build him are full tank or squishy bruiser, so a stat buff would also be nice. Even though Aatrox is underpowered, a piece of me doesn't want him getting buffed too much because being an Aatrox main is special in the sense that he's not common in the meta and that he's so underpowered. If you can use him correctly then you are one of a kind.
Aatrox only needs one fix. That is to be untargetable while he is in flight. Aatrox can't escape team fights where he is targeted because he can be hit while he is in mid-air unable to do anything.
I played him last season from SILVER III to GOLD IV with 71% win rate but what I want to say is that I feel him underpowered to ,I dont know how to say this but some how i have the feeling that is to much work and to less reward . (I dont like to play him for his skills or gamplay but for the story and his look )
I main Aatrox because I love him, not because he's good, because he isn't he's terrible... Almost impossible to use unless you really get ahead then he becomes a god, I've had 28/8/13 on a casual game with just a trackpad (mouse broke) just because I got ahead. He really does need a rework, just sort out those horrific base stats, they are plain stupid. You can't call a champion with less than 2000 hp and only 15 hp regen at lvl 18 a tank. He's complicated to use without being an AD caster as it's all about prep, he has pretty much no scaling, except that he'll kill himself faster with more AD, his Ult is crap, just don't have it scale, stop the AP scaling nonsense, just plain AS and LS buff, or deal TD or something. Reduced obviously, otherwise that'd be free penta every teamfight. I like the idea (and also build) of him as a tank shredder, but having to build so much around it means I never have a place for that black cleaver as he desperately needs masses of lifesteal and tanky items to stop him dying, sort out his regen etc. I still use him for that purpose but as CyberDarius said he feels like a lot of work, I mean really he's a champion that's designed to be focused as a sustainer, but you actually have to fix the fact that he's utterly useless at sustaining until he has a bit of armour and lifesteal added on. A zoned Aatrox may as well head back to base as he can't recover HP at all.
The first time Riot nerfed aatrox was because he did too much DPS for how tanky he was. With that logic, champions like shyvana, fiora, udyr, and probably more should also get nerfed.
I personally think that 
needs a rework. His current power and even his kit don't really fit what his lore describes. I was thinking maybe he could have some kind of team wide offensive buff kind of like a super offensive 
because THATS WHAT HE DOES IN HIS LORE. He turned a bunch of hopeless soldiers in a losing war into an unstoppable legion of warriors. AATROX DOESNT DO ANYTHING AT ALL LIKE THAT. I think he should have a large ad or maybe lifesteal buff like pre rework 
ult. The rest of his abilities could be like aoe sword swings like it describes IN HIS LORE. AAtrox should be like an unstoppable general, leading his team, making them stronger.
Aatrox was my first champ and first main back in S4. Haven't really played him much since then. He needs serious rework or buffs. Sure I could play him every now and then and maybe do OK if my jg camps or if my lane opp doesn't know how to play. Against anyone competent he always loses
I've been an enthusiastic main for 2 years now.
He needs a full rework eventually but right now he would benefit from some tiny passive, q and ult modifications.
At least passive - it's rly frustrating when you proc your passive and lose all the attack speed you've gathered with care.
I agree too. Although I play well, I still think need to buff. Actually, he is really underpowered because his status is worser then adc ( health). Also, he should be buff to as strong as in the story.
Actually the reason why he's up isn't because of nerfs, instead he was sitting on a 52% win rate for a very long time until they nerfed all of his core times into horseshit tier.
Aatrox is really underpowered and I'm sure Riot knows this yet they've let him stay like that for too long. It's like they don't want him to be good. Aatrox is one of the coolest looking and lore-wise champions in LoL yet when I play him I feel like I'm just holding my team back.
I agree it is harder to play top with him. I have started playing bot with him now and winning a lot more but everyone HATES when I go bot with him. Can we get an update on AATROX please...and some more skins would be nice.
Bumping this, he needs to be seriously looked at. He kills himself, like seriously put him against any fighter and watch how much his moves hurt himself faster then the enemy does and he is not delivering enough damage back. He is way to squishy. I honestly don't get how you Riot does not see this, go play him riot, its so noticable
