Ornn's new passive? 9.1

So, I have a question about ornn as I have started playing him to try out this new update. All opinions aside about whether it was good or not I'm having trouble understanding the new implemented part of his passive when he builds items for teammates. I don't get how I am able to choose the item I want to upgrade for teammate if they have two upgradeable items. Ex. A lux on my team had ludens and death cap and while wanting to upgrade her death cap it instead upgraded her ludens. Does anybody know how to choose a specified item?

As far as I can tell there's no way to choose what item they get which seems like a huge oversight. I've played a large handful of games on him and the item I want to upgrade is never the one that actually gets upgraded. I had the person purchase the item I want to upgrade first instead of their normal build and I've even tried pinging the item before I upgrade it and nothing seems to work.

Unless there's some super obscure, odd way of doing it I just don't think it's possible. :/

Hmm. It really is strange to implement such a thing when they have no sort of customization and leave it up to chance. I'm going to do some extra testing with a friend in custom and see if I can find any sort of solution. I appreciate the answers everyone :D

I think I read somewhere that it upgrades the first item in the inventory. I haven't been able to test it, though.

Edit: I found the comment I was thinking of here.

At the moment it works on an internal priority system. I've been thinking about some other options, like maybe whatever is in the earliest slot? Curious what you guys might think would work here.

i think what they SHOULD do code wise. is make it so the teammate that is getting the upgrade chooses by placing the item in slot 1.

and in the event the item they have in slot one, is non upgrade-able, then it would prioritize slot 2, and so on.

although, i read a post on reddits ornn mains that was along the lines of this OP, and one experimenter there was quite baffled because when he pressed tab to see his teammates gear, what he saw in slot one, was not the same as what his teammate had in slot one on their own screen. so, if true, that adds a bit of confusion to this.

Maybe its the first/last eligible item in their inventory?
