Support not getting enough Gold? (Rakan)

I've been playing Rakan a lot lately (I'm new to him, so I play around with runes and builds a lot), and even tho the games go pretty well most of the time, I'm finding it hard to keep up with the damage coming from the enemies, namely the ADC + Support. During the Aftershock rune, everything is fine; but after it, I die in like 2 to 5 hits without warning... And If I'm caught in a single CC, I'm guaranteed to die.

Likewise, I'm always forced to flee after said passive goes down using Rakan's E, but my ADC's yells at me or blames me for them dying when they continue to fight on without me...

Am I doing something wrong? It seems even with my ADC getting Targon's Brace and me getting any gold income item, I still have little to nothing to work with. I know supports are not suppose to do most damage and such, but with someone like Rakan, I have to always go in and start the fight; and you cannot do that so well when you are squishy as heck...

The problem is that unless you are a hypertanky champion everything melts you because riot doesn't know how to balance shit.

This is what I'm starting to think. I main Kled, and he has a massive HP pool, esp at level 18. Just build Damage on him, and he can 1v1 anyone without an issue.

As m7 Rakan main, aftershock? I mean that's fine for Leona but if you even try to stay close to the enemy long enough to get it to proc, yes they are going to melt you in 3 hits. Your sequence is shield, knock up, shield back - the only time you should ever stay in the middle of the battle for longer than 2s is when you have your ulti on. They shouldn't even get close enough to you to actually hit you. Move around your adc but stay back, don't try to poke or do dmg, that's not your job - Rakan is "start the fight-get out of it" type. Sometimes, there just won't be much you can do, but that just means you have to be more careful with your cooldowns. In short, what you are doing wrong is trying to do too much. Don't get in the middle of the fights, just knock them up and get out. When your cd is down, again, knock them up and get out. That's all you need to do, don't stay in the mid of the fight long enough for them to kill you.

So that's all Rakan can do? Just W and leave? His Q and E are incredible weak, even if you try to build AP on him. E is great for getting around I guess, but the shield is weak AF, same for the Q's Heal.

It feels like this whole champion is just "Hey, press W and hope your ADC can do the rest." which sounds kinda retarded. ADC's cannot take much before they die themselves, which is why a lot of supports ether have massive HP (Tahm), heals (Soraka), shields (Janna) or CC (Alistar, Blitz, etc). Rakan has very little of it all, on top of being fragile as hell. He's fun as hell, but he seems so weak without a steady supply of Gold, which is why I was questioning that.

It's like he has the best engage for a support, but he's the worst at everything else. Smh

You're underestimating the power of W, if you do it at the right time you can pretty much ensure a kill, or save your teammate from getting killed, and it does some nice damage as well. The real problem with shield is not that it's weak, but that it's very short, so unless you do it exactly before/during a hit, it makes no difference. It's not terrible though, I've saved people with it. Your R is also amazing, you can carry an entire game with it if there are no feeders. You are right though, Rakan is mainly an engage/cc supp, but he's very good at that. I think the problem might also be your build - I build Rakan as a tank so I can take some damage, I hardly ever die more than 3 times in a game. Check out some youtube videos about him too, just so you can get some ideas about his playstyle. As for the gold, I'm not sure,I've never had problems with it, or I simply never noticed. To be honest, i hardly ever need to go back xD
