Kayn PBE Changes - Why not remove the timer mechanic?

So I was looking over the potential Kayn changes on the PBE and I do like the changes a lot. The Darkin Scythe (Passive) Power gained from damaging enemy champions tweaked from [old] to [new] Context - "We're currently testing a changelist that allows Kayn to collect passive points way more quickly before 10 minutes, slightly slower than on live after that."

Umbral Tresspass (R) : AD ratio increased from 150% to 165% Damage increased from 150/250/350 to 175/275/375

However, I still think the main change with his character that needs to be considered is the timer lockout for your choice of transformation. I don't understand why it even exist. It is way too heavily dependent on the opposing teams choices as far as team comp and also heavily influenced by who you can gank and when you can gank them. I do not mind filling up a meter prior to transformation but then gating the transformation you want feels like an additional headache to the champ. I know someone at Riot thought it would be a cool mechanic but it doesn't really do anything but hold this champion back. I think this aspect of the champion may need to be reviewed again if not entirely just removed and provide both transformation as an option after the meter is fully charged. It would be a great little quality of life buff and I've read many complaints from people who have played kayn say that they get the transformation they don't want/need more often than not based on the game. I know that this part of the post seems anecdotal but please Riot, take this into consideration. I love playing Kayn and do so often and really think this particular change could increase his usability without the need for additional buffs or adjustments.

I agree. It really does nothing good for the game or kayn.

I've been trying to think really hard as to how you could make the dual transformation thing work with the current iteration but I can not think of any way that it works. I don't mind the gauge to the transformation as a thematic element or a mechanical element but I feel like they didn't really think it through. They kind of just went, "What if we had a champ who could transform into one of two transformations and it depended on variables in the game?" And that is as far as they got. I might see how going shadow would mean oh there are a lot of ranged champs so they must be squishy so I'll go assassin transformation but the problem with that is it doesn't take into account that ranged doesn't always mean the target is squishy or that maybe the only people you could hit at the time were ranged and that there are more tanky targets that could deal with shadow form. The timer and transformation lockout just feels like an unnecessary addition to the gauge because of the lack of forethought for those variables.

I believe the biggest problem in Kayn's kit is the biggest counter play to him is to not to fight him, delaying his transformation reduces his power like crazy. Why not make it so its a 50/50 circle at the start and at 10 mins he gets his transformation based on which one is more or wait 4 mins for the other transformation. This way he gets his mid game power spike and the enemy jungler doesnt have to feel like he cant ever fight kayn or risk having him transform eariler on in the game.

That's an interesting thought. The thing is though you can try to avoid fighting Kayn but Kayn is going to get the orbs regardless because he is just going to go to other lanes anyway. But I think your suggestion overall is still interesting.
