Katarina is a pretty strong champion (as some of you would be very willing to admit) so I figured, what'd happen if you put Luden's Echo in her build? Here were some of the results *note that this is a Katarina build of my own:

Luden's Echo (120 AP + 7% Movement Speed + Statikk Shiv-like passive) Liandry's Torment (50 AP + 300 Health + 15 Magic Penetration + Damage over time from passive) Rabadon's Deathcap (120 AP + 30% AP increase from passive) Zhonya's Hourglass (120 AP + 50 armor) Sorcerer's Shoes (any enchantment) (15 Magic Penetration + 45 movement speed) Rylai's Crystal Scepter (100 AP + 400 Health)

Now, with the addition of Luden's Echo, the passive (think of it like a Statikk Shiv for mages) works with any ability. This means that Katarina's Q (which already bounces) does bonus magic damage, to multiple targets.

Basically, at full build Katarina in Patch 5.5, you can Bouncing Blades into a crowd of targets, deal literally 2x the amount of damage Bouncing Blades would do normally to all of them, Shunpo in, and Sinister Steel them, and if that's not enough, why not throw in an extra ult or two?

This build = OP.

EDIT: people hated my idea of building Katarina so I changed it around a bit to receive a lot less flame

What?

A typical Katarina build was Sorcs, DFG, Zhonya's, Rabadon's, Abyssal, Void Staff. When DFG was removed, people started getting Mejai's, and now Luden's is the better/safer choice.

EDIT: And at full build it still only does around 230 Magic Damage.

It's good, but not on a Mid Lane Katarina. Save that for Old School Top Lane Bruiser Kat with the Classic Sorcs, WotA/Gunblade, Zhonya's, Rylai's, Liandry's, Void Staff/Abyssal build.

Try Sorcboots>Zhonya's/Rabadon>Luden's Echo>Rabadon/Zhonya's>Voidstaff>GA Tiensinoakuma (challenger 500LP) likes to rush it, but I personally prefer a safer build with either high damage to snowball (rabadon) or defensive stats and a lifesaver active (zhonya's) for recovering a lost lane with ganks. P.S.: oh, and Liandry's is shit on Kata. Never buy it. You don't even need Haunting guise anymore, you can just take an Abyssal or Void Staff for the magic pen, I suggest to always rush mpen boots

The problem lies more in the katarina champ and not the luden's echo itself, she got so much ridicules damage it rarely even matter if you got champs that can cc her because your squishy team usually die before your champions throws in any CC, if kata could just get some attention like they did to veigar, ryze and so many other champs they broke and realize kata got to much undeserved damage after Luden's came out it's not even fun playing with or against her.

One reason I don't think she'll get a big nerf is that she's the main poster child for the game. A lot of people at Riot and in the pro scene seem to love her, which helps her nerf resistance. She can make flashy plays no matter who's playing her, and I think that's kinda what Riot sees as her identity right now: the easy to play snowballing reset assassin. She makes games exciting (for one person and any spectators).

I do think the Luden's Echo Katarina is exactly what should have happened with the DFG replacement item, but Kat seems to be the only assassin who it's unconditionally good on. Instead of bringing the item down, I think the more likely path will be a buff to other AP assassins who can't use it as well. She's also dead in the water after 40 minutes if the enemy team has any late game or instantaneous hard CC champs.

I thought typical Katarina's build (from some match I've spectate including friend's matches) is:

Abyssal Scepter Zhonya's Hourglass Sorcerer's Shoes Void Staff

These can be situational for last 2:

Luden's Echo can be good for clearing

Rabaddon's Deathcap for extra Ability Power

Mejai's Soulstealer is good for players with high kill-streak

Hextech Gunblade or Will of the Ancients is not bad since it gives Spell Vamp

Liandry's Torment can good for Health and further Magic Penetration since they stack with Sorcerer's Shoes and since flat penetration counted after percentage penetration but other passive is useless unless you build:

Rylai's Crystal Scepter for extra Health and Slow that proc with Liandry's Torment

What makes Ludens Echo OP on Kata is the synergy between her passive and Ludens Echo. Because she spams her abilities in fight she can get 2-3 Ludens Echo procs off in a single teamfight. Her shunpo alone gives her around 40% or more of the Ludens Echo passive.
