Unsealed spellbook and smite

I hadn't had this come up before yesterday, but i thought a change could be made to help. Our jungler in a ranked game forgot to take smite, which usually leads to an automatic loss. (I've won like this before but it is rare) I had unsealed spellbook as a supp so I suggested I would trade out for smite and try to jung and let them support. I realized even though I swap to smite I couldn't buy a jungle item and therefore didn't get the xp upgrade. I'm sure this is on purpose, so people don't abuse it in lane. But, it would have been nice if one of us could have jungled. Maybe allow a change to be able to purchase a jungle item if no one else has one already?

Maybe change the jungle item passives and xp bonus only work while you have smite equipped? It'd be similar to how hydra works on Jayce (only in melee form since the item is melee only)

Ok sure but why15 votes

Which is dumb, because anyone could start the game with smite, get the item, and then get rid of smite afterwards.

OK. Sure, but why?

Do we need a history lesson on season 5 item 1413 ?

Look at his name

Because season 5 Cinder was so strong champions like Shyv and Mundo were taking smite + tp just to abuse the item? Eventually something similar will happen again knowing Riot

Guy, I know what happened. LOOK at the name of the guy I replied to.

He doesn't even do anything.

It's a joke: he replied "OK. Sure, but why?" to someone whose nickname is "Ok sure but why", and was trying to explain this to "Face The Win". Wanting to continue the joke, I posted the same "OK. Sure, but why?" to his second exasperated reply. And that's also why I copy-pasted your nickname as a reply to you. I hope this clears your doubt.

They should make it to where you can build the item but can't use it if you switch off of smite. Also i saw in the notes if you don't have the appropriate cc to proc aftershock when it is equppied it gets swapped to grasp maybe something similar should be added for players who forget smite

"jungle items are op, we can't let that happen"

Wait you can't buy it but you can swap out smite after buying the jungle item? Riot?

Yeah I noticed this too :( If you don't start with smite then you can't get the items. I was playing top-lane before they removed sightstone and I wanted to get a warding item because our support wasn't buying it... swapped to smite and then lo and behold I was not allowed to buy that item :(

I like the idea of there being a passive that allows a spellbook smite user to have access to jungle items as long as there isn't an another smite user on the same team. But once you buy a jungle item, smite is locked in and can't be changed.

The idea is that the passive will check for champions who start the game with smite, and then spellbook users who change to smite if no other smite user is detected. If there is a cause of two or more spellbook smite users, it will only apply to the first person who buys a jungle item.

Or maybe have smite auto-selected when you get placed in the jungle role. I know I prefer a jungler with smite and ignite than a jungler with flash and ignite.

doesnt work, what if he wants to swap roles does it and then forgets to swap to ignite or so

It's much worse for a jungler to not have smite than for, say, a midlaner to have smite.
