Idea for Dynamic Ranked

TL;DR This commubity needs Jesus. Also, I propose to be able to prefer teams of solo players, and to be able to preview your team.

ACTUAL POST: So, With dynamic ranked queue having been announced, and a shitstorm to end all shitstorms having been started, I would like to propose some constructive ideas.

First and foremost, I'd like to get it known that I don't intend this to be a complaints thread. I don't want this to be an "oh, ranked dynamic is so bad it's ruining solo queue." We have so much wine on the front page that even Gragas wouldn't know what to do with it. I do think there are valid discussion points on both sides, however, and I have some possible solutions to this that I think are worth talking about.

Now that that's out of the way, to begin, I personally like the IDEA of this. I have a group of 5-6 friends who may or may not all be on at any given time. Sometimes it's just one of us, sometimes its three, sometimes we're all there. I love the idea that no matter how many of us there are, we could all queue up together in ranked. I think that will have a net positive on the game as a whole. I think all these complaints about a system like this are a little preemptive, because while yes, it didn't work in another MOBA, doesn't mean that Riot can't make it work. I think as a whole it encourages team work, encourages bringing friends to the game and playing with those friends. I think that's great, and something the game should strive for more and more every year.

That being said, there are some legitimate concerns. Yes, it does have impact on solo players. They may end up disadvantaged in a game being one of the only people not with friends. They might get flamed by people on the team if they are a group (but let's be completely honest, most of us see premades EVERY. DAY. and the percentage of the time that those premades start flaming and trolling you with no instigation at all is pretty damn low. In a large majority of situations, if you're respectful, so are they). It makes the point of solo queue feel a little invalid. These are all valid points that are not without merit. However, we need to remember that this is still a team game, and whatever solution we come to, should be about the community as a whole, and not a small subset with certain interests. With this taken into consideration, I have a few things I'd like to propose.

I think that, while queuing up, there should be a checkbox that you can check that says something akin to "prefer solo only teams," or something to that effect. I don't think we should be splitting up the queue, because everyone being in one queue makes it easier to find games. However, I know that riot can do priority based queueing, they're doing it right now with this new system. Furthermore, upon finding a queue- before you accept, there should be a window that pops up that shows the team you would be matched with. This might require a slight increase to accept time but I think it would be worth it. This window could show you how many of these people are in a premade. I.E. a window pops up. It shows you the 4 people you'd be matched with, their roles, your role. It has little colored dots over each summoner's head to show what "group" they belong to. If they're all separate colors, there is no premade. If three are of one color, and one guy is another color, it means you have a three man premade. I would do a visual for this but I SUCK at art things (so if anyone is talented, I would love a mock up to put here - with proper credit of course). I think that with these two things in tandem, the people who prefer to be solo can do their best to remain so. The people who don't mind the new system can be matched with the first room that comes around. I'm sure most people wouldn't mind having to go through one or two rooms before finding their perfect match. The only real downside I can see to this is it might increase queue times a little - but when you are nearly guaranteed to get the experience you are looking for, it might just be worth it. That, or we can just say "oh well, learning to adapt to new situations is part of the game and is how you get better."

With all that in mind, I'd love some constructive discussion, particularly on the ideas I proposed. Sorry for the long winded rant.

First I like this idea and I think this is a move in the right direction regardless of how well it actually ends up working.

That said I see some problems with matchmaking, mainly mmr queing. In the live game if you duo que it does something along the lines of averaging your mmr's and then adding some amount to the average. Which from my experience seems to make it so that you face a team with mmr from the higher ranked player while have a team with mmr from the lower ranked player. But if both players are the same rank then they get placed with people at the same rank and face a higher rank.

I think the current system works fairly well but except when the difference in rank starts reaching the max difference.

If they have a similar system in place for the dynamic que it could exaggerate the problem.

I think there are restrictions on what ranks can queue with who, and they are keeping those restrictions. So in any given circumstance, you should only ever be facing people at most a division or two above you at any given time (USUALLY), unless you play well and your MMR is unusually high. I don't think this should be a huge problem, but I can imagine that once it is brought to 4 people, it MIGHT actually be tricky.

I know with duo que it is possible to face someone a full tier above you, s5 - g5, in duo que that would only happen if you have high mmr as an s5 and were duoing with someone at least at your mmr and rank.

My worry is that a 4 man of high mmr s5 would get matched against g5's.
