Contemplating Mordekaiser

(Tl;dr add some sort of CC or engage to morde's q, w, or e and he'll be good)

Preface: With The Master of Metal's recent modifications, I'd like to take this opportunity to discuss how to make Mordekaiser feel more deserving of his title.

The Big Conundrum: At mentioned in the 5.4 patch notes, the concept behind Morde has always(?) been about the metal. And what do metal heads do? They thrash, they mosh, and they rock out. These are things that Morde definitely likes to do, but the big issue is that they are not things he likes to do all the time. Arguably, his primary role in LoL as it currently stands is a midlane mage. He can go bruiser top lane but his lack of disengage make top lane dangerous for him in comparison to Nasus, Riven, and many more. Furthermore, if Morde commits to the tankiness expected from most top laners right now, his kit doesn't have quite enough kick to really contribute unless he can grab an enemy marksman. As an AP caster though, Mordekaiser only lives up to the scrappy reputation on which most metal-heads pride themselves when he gains a decent gold lead, and that is only really because his offense feeds his defense.

The Big Difference: When compared against other bruisers Morde really doesn't seem to be missing much from his kit: he's got decent damage, a passive that for all intents and purposes adds to his health pool, and even a defense buff now for two people! The only glaring omission? Movement modifiers (feel free to discuss that flat +60 ms, I'm not sold). Put succinctly, Mordekaiser does not have a strong means to initiate the mosh.

Possible Solutions:

-Whack-a-Mole: Add a leap mechanic to Mace of Spades similar to that of jax and suddenly you've got a metal-head more than ready to jump into the fray. This wouldn't actually add too much escape or cc to the champ, especially if it could only be executed on enemy or neutral monsters (unlike jax), but what it would allow Morde the ability to get up close and personal a lot more easily which is more in line with his aesthetic as a rocker. Admittedly, he is carrying around a lot of metal, but he's also Mordekaiser. Hue.

Swirling Death: Put the W on the enemy instead of the ally. Though the rework to Mordekaiser's W is pretty rad, I feel as if it was a bit misguided. To be fair, I've heard that most mosh enthusiasts will look out for each other, but Morde is a soul sucking... something... he isn't really that nice. So really why does he have the ability to shield his friends? Eh, why not? No, we can do better. By changing Mordekaisers Creeping Death from an ally target to an enemy target not only does that new movements speed increase become much more useful, it also become more in keeping with his kit and allows him to focus on one target more (like the other DFG enthusiast mentioned in the 5.4 patch notes). Not only that, but the armor and MR given by Creeping Death would be more in keeping with the aesthetic of his ult as it could steal armor and MR from the target. We can leave the spell values discussion to QA.

The Other Two: This is just to be comprehensive. His E and R don't need much tweaking, especially his R which is really the only game-relevant aspect of Morde that ties him to the shadow isles.

Conclusion: Mordekaiser is a really fun champion as he stands now but there's a reason you don't see him much anymore and that's because LoL has kind of left him behind. All that's needed to make him actually relevant is something to help him start the mosh. I'd love to hear any ideas the rest of the community has about what I've presented today or even something I haven't. Thank you for your time and happy rocking.

I had the idea of replacing Siphon of Destruction with an ability that fires a skillshot chain towards a target, keeping them linked to Mordekaiser meaning they can't move past a certain distance, slowing them and increasing the damage they take from damage over time effects while the chain holds.

Also, if they dash or blink out of the chain, it snaps. This frees them but the recoil briefly stuns and deals a small bit of damage.

To me, this fits better than having a giant hunk of metal move quickly. More of a 'you will not evade me' than 'I'm going to catch you.'

R: Mordekaiser gains movement speed toward the target - this bonus halves after 5 seconds. If the target is killed, they become a ghost that morde can control and Morde and the ghost are granted MS when moving toward each other. W: Revert to previous patch. Q: Upon striking a target, Morde gains a burst of % MS that diminishes over 1.5 seconds.
