Was wondering about laning against a Kled as Riven.

So I was earlier laning with a Kled, and so I decided to test my damage. He killed me for first blood and I tped to him to kill him, he was about 40% health and dropped me from 100% to 10%. I was fighting mostly cause I never laned against a Kled before and was trying to test our duelist power. We're even in items, and I decide to start to farm. Suddenly I realize that his bear traps can go through minions and he yanked me, for some reason doing 400 damage over my 880 heath. I used a shield so it was about 200. Then he went onto me with his Violent Tendencies to decimate me with 500 damage for 4 auto attacks (he had a phage and a long sword). He then finished me off with his E auto. He continued to decimate me from then until late game when his damage fell off. The problem was he was fed enough even if he was making a lot of mistakes and dying over and over again to our team, that he would do enough damage to let his losing teammates, besides Ziggs, snowball to win the game. Now that game is in the past, but I wanted to see if anyone can give me ideas what I should be doing early game laning against Kled, and what should I look for to happen so I can go in? Thanks!
