Anivia Q animation

So im just curious, as an anivia main, why is her Q so different depending on if you're anivia of if you're one of the enemy? ive never actually played against another anivia, she seem's to be semi-rare, at least against the level of players i tend to be matched up with. but from what ive seen of her Q in some video's and in her ability screen in game, it looks, deceptively small. I never really thought about it until someone complained, and looking back at the ability preview in game again, i can see how it would be VERY deceiving. why the difference?
