What I think about rakan

Hello. I'm a support main who plays mostly Janna, Soraka, Nami, and the other passive supports. Rakan is the first support I've played that really feels fun. He isn't stationary like the other supports, and he is very versatile(can be played both passively and aggresively without getting punished for missing a hook like blitzcrank). He quickly became my favorite, and I will probably be spamming him from now on. Since I love to play him I would naturally want him to be stronger, but I will say my neutral opinion on his state after playing him for like 60 times in ranked.

Autoattacks: His autoattack range is VERY short. You will get punished if you try to autoattack poke the enemy, and it will usually end badly for you(getting outpoked or engaged on). Since he attacks with his tail I kind of see why he has so short autoattacks. I would love to see a small buff to the range, and maybe nerf the base damage, but it is not necessary.

Passive: The shield passive is pretty balanced. The recall one doesn't work if you join the partner in the last second. I hope this will get fixed.

Q: The damage and heal on this spell is alright. The Q range is short and quite hard to hit. It is very similar to karma Q, but the fact that karma Q does a little aoe explosion when hitting minions(or champions) makes it so much easier to land. I think this spell definitely needs a buff. Either increase the damage, make it go through minions, increase the range(preferably), or give it a small aoe on impact.

W: This spell is well balanced. Not much to say here.

E: This spell is very good. This spell + the ulti is probably the reason some people call Rakan OP. I think the leap range on Xayah is a little bit too long though.

R: I think his ultimate is balanced. Some small tweaks can be done. He will get 200% briefly after hitting the first enemy, but I think he should get that burst of movementspeed everytime he hits a champion. It is very risky to go melee range on the enemy as a squishy ranged champion after all.

This champion is good with strong champions like lucian who can follow up on his engage. He can set up ganks easily. He is strong in the mid game where he can pick people out of position, and is very decent in teamfights with his ultimate. He does lacks the presence in laning phase because of the underwhelming and shortranged Q and autoattacks. This champion is not overpowered as some people say. He is just very different from the previous supports. He has high mobility and draws attention to himself with his kit, unlike the other supports who is on the backline. His fighting power is on par with soraka, this is how weak he is.

Rakan is the weakest support right now and he has a ton of problems with his kit.

A lot of people have said "oh he's OP" or thought he was going to be because of how flashy his kit looked. But flashy =/= good.

He has two huge problems:

  1. He has pathetic levels of damage (like Janna and Soraka levels of damage). His auto range is short, as you identified, but across the board his base dmgs/scalings are pitiful. The range on his Q is quite short. He doesn't heal or shield for a whole lot, either, as do Soraka and Janna . That being said, it's a price he pays for his mobility, but that makes him not so good bot lane where trading well is the hallmark of a good support (and because he doesn't do much dmg/enable his carry to do dmg/heal or shield his carry much, he frankly sucks at).

  2. He is the only ranged support who is forced to go into melee range to CC his enemies. Yes, he has his E to dash back to safety (if an ally is near). Still, as a support who is ranged, he is quite squishy and will likely get locked/bursted down the instant he gets into melee range. This makes it very hard to do the one thing he is good at, which is cc'ing enemies.

Agreed with most of what you say. I have 2 points to say about him

  1. Q definitely needs a change. It feels like crap to throw and on the one times it lands it still feels like crap.

  2. Dashing to an ranged ally with E should allow Rakan to have this ally's attack range for his next 3 AAs. As a squishy, AP-based champion who is meant to kite around as he peels and shields, it's ridiculous to expect him to stand at 300 range to attack at all times.
