Am i supossed to be impressed? You have 4.7k life with like 65% damage reduction 2 shields which you use multiple times and a soraka healer.

Should the towers of 3 shot you?

EDIT: I like how literally every person responding to this post completely ignored the soraka.

I would say Tower are useless when I see a Zed kill me under my tower when I'm full health.

and tanks 6 tower shots, leaves with half hp, you forgot that one.

He took 51 turret shots in this video.

And? My original statement still stands. Between all the shields, healing and armor he probly had 25k EHP if not more.

But hey. Guess turrets should deal 2.5k damage a hit or something. (Even at 2.5k damage a hit it would of taken 20+ attacks lawl)

Bârd10 votes

Not really. Increasing the damage of the turret decreases the time he can wait around on shield CD's, and how much time those shields can buy them.

His EHP would go down drastically if he died after tanking three unshielded hits.

NocturnalSheild10 votes

I dont think you understand what your asking for. I mean 3 hits against a 4.6k life tank? Really?

Your asking for towers to be buffed from around 400 damage to over 2000 damage.

They would literally 1 shot squishys and minions would have to have their health increased 10 fold to compensate.

They could always do percentage based true damage. But then siege comps would become king and tanks would be shit as they could no longer get near towers.

Even ramping true damage isnt a good idea as a simple turtle comp could stall a fight under a tower easily.

Games would go from 27 minutes to 65 minutes average easy. With the best turtle winning 100% of the time.

Towers need buffing. But only like 10% if that.

TeCoolMage13 votes

No one wants tanks to die in 3 hits, people just want something less than 51. Preferably a reasonable number instead of one that intentionally sounds ridiculous to make your argument seem better.

And no, it's not 400 to 2000 damage, as the damage increases linearly, the EHP decreases linearly as well (take more damage -> less chances to use a shield ability), which in turn decreases the amount of shots a tank can take quadratically

Will probs update with some algebra showing this relationship some other time but not right now

A majority of problems arise because tanks have too much EHP and squishies don't have enough anyway (so instead they have to compensate by killing tanks in 2 seconds)

Durzaka3 votes

Dude, the person he is replying to LITERALLY just said that he should die in 3 unshielded shots.

For him to die to 3 unshielded shots in this situation (ignoring the soraka heals) the shots would have needed to do roughly 2k damage before armor (he had over 4k HP and a good amount of armor).

TeCoolMage5 votes

Okay my bad, I read his comment and 'His EHP would go down drastically if he died after tanking three unshielded hits' registered as 'His EHP would be much lower if he took three hits without shielding, then died some time after'

That being said you're both being ridiculous, tanks should die in like 10 hits or something, but not 3, and definitely not 51. 25 in this case because Soraka used W spam, Locket AND redemption. (Ahem two of which are supposed to be full team damage mitigation and not for making a single tank unkillable)

I feel like towers should do % hp dmg so they can threaten tanks without being too overtuned vs squishies. Maybe it'd kick in after the first few shots.

lmao, what a terrible idea. You want to overbuff the towers so it can be your safe spot, because apparently what this game needs is more last hitting while tower hugging and being undivable instead of proactively playing the game and trying to actually interact with enemies. The towers should support you a bit, not be your personal bunker.

?

The point of them doing % damage is so that diving is still possible for all champions without towers being so easily outscaled. It's for the mid-late, not the early.

Note that tower damage scales with game time, and the Sion was rather ahead of the curve in levels (he's level 15 versus enemys mostly being level 13), so his base armour compared to the towers AD at that point in the game would be a bit out of line with most peoples intuition.

Towers still probably do need a bit more kick to them, but theres a lot of confounding factors in this particular example.

Provengreil7 votes

also note that he has 2 shields(one of which is low cd and based on percentage of his own MASSIVE hp pool), a soraka burning her entire HP pool and an item, and the masteries can hand out even more hp, armor, or both.

Think you're missing the point, he has locket ( 30 armor ) and a cloth armor ( 15 armor ) yet is able to tank all that. Thats pretty disgusting

Provengreil6 votes

his armor total was over 150 and he has a spammable shield and a dedicated healer.

T4underbolt5 votes

He has only like one armor item. And most armor items are cheap and you can buy more than one. In no freaking world tank should be able to tank so many shots with one armor item. what seems to be a problem is also not the armor but hp as well. In this game HP is so freaking cheap that even when you rush some random hp item on assassin or mid lane mage you automatically win the trades and all ins because nobody has enough damage to take away all hp. And additionally tanks are even worse than that because for some reason in this game tanks can kill squishies in one abilities rotation. And that makes it bullsht. Im really done trying to kite the tank around my tower but he has so much cc that even if I do it perfectly and sttuter step between abilities and autos like a God challenger player he still gets me and runs away with more than half hp after exploding me. Tanks do not fulfill the role they were designed to.

AninLegions7777 votes

Mate, no matter what you say, NEXUS TOWERS IN PARTICULAR, Should be DEADLY. Other towers can be garbage but the ones GUARDING THE MAIN OBJECTIVE of the game should not be made of bendy straws. After like 5 shots, it should switch to a true dmg beam with healing reduction and infinite scaling dmg. This BS of tank 2 nexus towers is garbage. In fact, champions hit by towers should have 100% healing reduction. Fck I'm getting so pissed. I play Sion so I do this BS and it hurts cos it literally takes 0 skills. Just stack hp and not that much armor. Fcking disgusting.

General Esdeath 21 votes

As much as I want turret buffs, this is a poor example for the argument. A full tank Sion with 4,600 HP and over 150 armor with a Soraka shielding him should be the one to tank the turrets. That's your role in the teamfight, is to soak damage. If you showed me a glass cannon Kog'Maw tanking 14 shots and walking away, it would be different.

Hibeki3 votes

Even so, 51 is such a ridiculously high number for such little resources put into it.

General Esdeath 9 votes

"little"

He shields every time it's up (including his locket) and Soraka heals him every time she can, even using her redemption AND ultimate.

I love how so many people in these comments are missing the point. Sion being Tanky which by all means he is not aside from health and shields. the dude has like 2 and 1/4 of armor in items isn't the issue here.

The issue is that by 51 shots and over 30 seconds under 2 NEXUS TOWERS (what should be the last defense and the most powerful towers) the damage did not keep ramping up to the point that he should not have been there. By that amount of time and shots, he should have been dead or at least running away from the towers as they were going to kill him.

Towers don't need to 3 shot tanks but they do need to at least be able to ramp up enough to deal the damage necessary to make them not sit under a tower for 30 seconds. Make them deal % health damage or something because at least then they can properly scale up instead of just letting people do whatever under them.

Kaeblen3 votes

% health damage is obviously targeting tanks, and not others. for that reason, it is a bad idea. I do agree that 30 sec under a turret, or under both nexus turrets, is far too long. here are some suggestions that may be better than % health damage:

  • remove the cap on ramping turret damage. this way damage will continue to ramp up until you EVENTUALLY die.
  • Increase attack speed and hp regen on nexus towers to match Twisted Tree Line Nexus Turret (this is close to double attack speed, an much higher than that in regen)
  • Re-introduce Tower-shields. I never really liked the tower-lazers, but the shield seemed to let towers become really really effective at defense. If inner towers, inhibitor towers, and nexus towers all had that shield, it would help defense a great deal. (Also, it never made sense that with each tier of towers closer to nexus they would lose their old benefits and gain new ones. the benefits should stack, rather than being replaced.)
  • re-introduce tools like Garrison and Fortify, to make towers stronger when needed.
  • basic hp and base damage buff for towers. something like 5% increase. maybe more maybe less.

People are looking at towers in a vacuum. Saying "Well look at your team healing and shielding you" is nonsense. This is the current state of the game. Yea, they healed him, yea, he shielded, but if towers were up to par this wouldn't be allowed. No one is saying heals and shields shouldn't help, but to be tanky against fortifications to this degree is absurd. This is regular gameplay, those people aren't specced into specifically negating towers, he's not stacking armor. This is not an outlier example. This shouldn't happen, period.

The amount of stupidity in this thread is disheartening. At least these 2 people got it dead right.

Doesn't matter if he was getting healed, or shielded. Lets also put into context that this is master level game-play. Yet even then the towers become even more useless than in low skill level.

WHat is the enemy team supposed to do to come back against this? What are their options to winning if they can't team up under a tower, and use it as added damage/crutch? What are they supposed to do if they can't win a team fight? Split pushing is no longer an option when the enemy team can just run down mid with no fucks given WITHOUT their minions and still take towers with no care in the world.

the enemy team literally has no options.

We aren't missing the point, the point is wrong. For Starters he has a Warmogs, Cinderhulk, Righteous and locket. That's over 10k Gold in tank items. Then he has a self shield, an active shield, scaling HP per minion kill with 161 CS, Soraka Heals, Aeri Shields, redemption and tank runes. That's an insane amount of tankyness at 25mins...

I don't know why they changed it in the first place

No really, I didn't read the patch notes. I guess they changed it for farming?

Provengreil6 votes

they never found a workaround for the audio. after the first few shots the laser sound never turned off. That was a fairly big issue.

flibitydoo2 votes

they change it because no one complained about towers dealing damage until after they were implemented.

like literally look up any post before season 5 when they brought it in. None say "towers too weak"

and after season 5 introduced these towers? "towers do no damage, remove lasers they do no damage".

you could tank the beam for 5-10 seconds. ON ANY CHAMPION. you didn't need full health 4.6k hp sion with soraka, no you could be freaking full damage master yi, autoing their ashe to death under her turret and would walk away with 80%+ max health hp.

So we nerf tank items so they can't do this or do we buff towers so that they annihilate tanks and erase squishies on contact? i'm all up for nerfing tank items but boards would go apeshit if we took even 25 hp off one so do we make it so towers can kill tanks?

Karunamon14 votes

False dichotomy if I ever saw one.

Nobody's asking for tanks to be flattened or squishies to be annihilated.

Being able to tank 51 shots is clearly idiotic. And there's an argument to be made that nexus turrets should be rather painful.

Tempist3 votes

All it would take is adding percent damage to tower shots.

It could activate after the 3rd consecutive hit, or it could scale up with each it. But some sort of mechanic wherein a tank is initially able to weather multiple shots as they are supposed to, without leaving the tower completely irrelevant.

Provengreil5 votes

I'm with this. a short, targeted dive should be allowed to function. It's always been considered a skill thing. after that, the damage reduction of tanks will allow them to survive a bit longer while squishies start to drop fast. but just sitting there misplaying it (the video was just fooling around, ofc, to make the point) should kill them, too.
