Possible Genius Idea

So one thing that we cannot deny about this game is that it brings out the worst in some people when they get frusterated. A lot of these people who show anger and frusteration through aggressiveness towards others, are typically nice people and later regret the things they said. So I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if we had some sort of chat option that we can set outside of games, in case we're in a bad mood. And basically what this option would do is make it so if we use any type of vulgar or offensive words (all the way down to the word idiot or noob) it replaces the whole message with (I'm sorry for my salt). That way you don't say things you later regret, and your team won't have to argue with you. Also make it so the option is not toggleable while in a ongoing match. Definitely could use a lot of refinement, but I think it'd be a cool concept.

It would cause more harm than good. If it catches any buzzword, it would reject the message entirely. Which could be bad. It would also force trolls to get creative. They'd see it as a challenge.

On the other hand, if a player gets salty, and wants to say something involving one of those buzzwords, it would likely just increase their anger. Picture this: you get the typical rager. His support dies to a gank "wtf fucking feeder go uninstall feeding my lane fuck you" type nonsense. The message gets rejected, and instead comes up as "I'm sorry for my salt." At this point, he gets even more salty "wtf Rito not letting chat" ... "I'm sorry for my salt." Let's say he stops bitching now, because his messages won't go through. That's all well and good. But as a player, he's tilting even harder than without this.

I do like your idea, honestly. But a chat rejection/replacement is not quite the right approach. Not sure what a better idea is though. You're on the right track though.

Or it would be better and easier to do if they make a button that is dedicated for a function, when pressed it toggles the intended feature such that,

What you type after the toggle would only get printed onto your own chat history, but not others', so you can rage all you want without disturbing anybody else. And simply toggle the function off when you're done, and you're fresh as new.

Glorious.

i think your idea is really good, but i also want an option to turn off the ingame chat entirely in addition to that. like really, what i do is i just drag the chatbox out of the screen. why cant i just toggle it off if i can do that? im so much more chilled and happy when i dont have to read peoples shit, and honestly, there isnt much communication going on in the chat anyways. either you listen to pings and take them serious, or you cant be helped anyways. no need to have a chat at all.
