Shen Nerfed?

Just a boosted animal silver 4 player wondering why shen was nerfed. I never see him in any games, and while I claim to be a shen one-trick, I rarely play him because his matchups are so bad, and you get harassed really easily in lane. I think the last time I saw him was him being banned pretty often at worlds. However, in the 7.24 patch notes, it shows shen being nerfed for the reason being that "Shen's ability to win trades on his base damage alone is making him a pretty oppressive top laner to face off against."

However, I feel like that damage is pretty low considering that it's based on his abilities to hit aa's, which is pretty hard when everyone outpokes him. Also, Grasp is getting changed to be more damage oriented, which harms shen since he is very fond of stacking hp. Also, a lot of the champs in top lane right now are very poke oriented, such as Jayce , Rumble , Gnar , etc. Shen has pretty low range, so these popular champs destroy him.

Since I know I'm basically trash, can anyone explain to me why these nerfs occurred, or any higher skill players have advice how to deal with literally everyone? Thanks in advance.
