A quick comment about bans!

I don't often post, however, I feel that this is a very quick point I could bring up that might start meaningful discussion.

What if the number of bans was increased from 3 to 5, but every person on the team got one ban? This solves a couple problems:

  1. The power of banning isn't in the hands of one person (Potentially a troll). This could save at least the teambuilding phase of the game and alleviate the stress of playing against popular champions that you'd otherwise see every game.

  2. This could speed up the banning phase as a whole. Make it something like 30 TOTAL seconds for all five people to pick a champion. Then the other team picks. Done. Now everyone is picking their champions.

Thoughts?

This has been proposed many times here on the forums. The problem that arises, is that many player will merely just ban a champion from the role that they are playing, and there will be little in the way of actually banning multiple champions from a single role.

Honestly, the only thing I don't like about this is that I feel bans already have a sort of random nature with a risk of teammates banning out each others' champion pools, so I don't like increasing the number of bans. (Having at least a few is necessary in case a champion actually does get br0ken.) I would be fine with giving one ban each to the first three players, though.

I'll slightly echo a comment below in that providing each player with a ban removes the strategy behind banning, often times you will see champions that are particularly dominant, or you want to chop out a certain type of play, or even open the field for a power pick by removing specific counters.

Each player having a single ban essentially creates the "I'm going to ban a champion I don't want to play against in lane." mentality and removes teamplay.

I know that often times you'll have the banning player ban away their own lane exclusively, but in most of the games I play typically there's some level of cooperation, be it for anywhere from all 3 down to a single one of the bans.

I know personally I field the team for ban suggestions to see if there's any general consensus for who to ban.
