How long does it take to "get good"

I've currently been playing this game since early December. The first log in screen for me was Zoe. I play everyday and i have friends who were level 34 when I met em (I was still level 30) and now I'm level 96 and most of em are level 63. This doesn't make me "good" at the game, I just play every single day for hours. I still suck at this game of course, I am getting better though. I've learned good builds, runes on the go, etc. etc.

I recently got placed in ranked after dreading it for so long. I got Silver V as a support main. I play a lot of Nami, she's my fave. I consider to be quite good at her. Better than my m7 Lux and Sona which I am still concerned on how I got.

Sometime in my life I wan't to climb. My goal is Diamond. I'd be happy with diamond (not soon, but one day.) How long do you think it takes to actually be good at this game to be Diamond worthy? I'm not even Silver four yet because I haven't been playing as many ranked games as I'd like. I really wan't to at least get to gold by the END of this year or the beginning of next year (which isn't going to be easy.)

I don't want to be in bronze. I have surpassed friends who are Bronze III and have been playing for YEARS so I already feel good, but that IS because I play support. I heard it's easier in ranked as a support main.

TL;DR How long have people been playing who are ranked Diamond?

I am Gold 1 and been playing since mid season 5.

It just all depends how much self reflection you are willing to do and how often you blame others instead of looking at your own mistakes that will determine how fast you climb.

Or you could always climb with a busted champ. The problem with doing that though is you will probably only be able to play that one champ.

Ahh ok ty for your feedback, I appreciate it. I have very few friends in gold and they are already, very very good. Much better than me.

Honestly, Time has less to do with it than effort or a willingness to improve. I have friends who have been playing for FAAAAAAAAAR longer than me, and are still in bronze.

I personally have been playing I think for a little under 2 years. The first login screen I saw was Arcade Ahri. My first season (last season) I placed bronze 1, and climbed to silver 3. I didn't really know what I was doing back then ahah, and I played a lot of Zyra support. This season I worked a lot on improving my gameplay, and started to play A LOT of Nami. I even have an alt account dedicated solely to playing Nami, though I still consider Taliyah my main. I placed silver 2 after going 9-1 in placements, and climbed up to Gold 2 (though I've since demoted to Gold IV after some poor descisions aahah). I even placed Gold IV on my smurf, which is a fresh account. And honestly I think it's because I've put a lot of time in to actively trying to get better at the game. I still have a LONNNNNG way to go, and I don't really consider myself good, but I do think I've improved.

This is all pretty anecdotal, but TLDR; In my opinion, putting in effort to actively improve > time played Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

I've been playing since season 3

About 1500 ranked games per seasons ... (Yes that's alot) I got to diamond ranking since season 4 and am still diamond as of season 8 I once peaked to master on season 6 for about 3 days

Playing a lot doesn't mean anything. If you get the hang of it, you're good or not. My friends have been playing like me and they peaked at platinum - gold and even bronze.

As for me, I happen to play a lot of DoTA all star (on Warcraft III frozen throne) before playing LoL which is how I got to diamond on season 4.

Also, don't be scared to try something beyond the meta. following how people play isn't always the right path. Play like you think it is and you'll learn more

Thats crazy. I don't play a lot of online games. I play a LOT of nintendo. (Metroid, Megaman, Zelda) which have been very very very hard to beat. I hope that may help in my ability to play league. Ty for the feedback for sure though! I do appreciate it.

That guy plays a crap ton of matches. Think how productive you could be with that much free time. He only told you about the Ranked games. Imagine how many regular matches he plays just so he won't feed in ranked with new champs.

It varies from person to person, but honestly, it really depends how well you want to actually learn the game instead of just playing it.

I have some friends who have been playing for 5-6 years and they have yet to get good.

Ohh ok, ty. I appreciate the feedback! I've learned from comments that it's really just about practice and learning instead of time.

It also matters how much grinding you can handle. I know a lot of players who play really well, but just do not do ranked anymore. Between reworks, runes bentover, and a lot of toxicity a lot of people drop out.

Ahh gotchu, yeah for SURE toxicity is a big part. I've started just muting everyone in ranked games, I've found it helps.

Being Diamond rank is more than practice. Only 1.84% of accounts (at time of this comment) are in diamond in NA. You have to be good at video games in general to have the talent to be there.

I have been playing since S2 and I've never made it past plat 2. I don't really expect to at this point. If you don't get close naturally, I wouldn't beat yourself up about it; some people are just really, really good at game naturally, and most of the people I know in diamond are sorta like that.

Gotchu, thank you. I'd honestly be happy with plat as well, for sure my goal. Thats so little accounts too! Thats crazy.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

Sure thing!

And don't let me be a discouragement! I share those stats partially because you should feel good about being even gold! That's top 50%, basically!

And if you wanna be the very best, like no one ever was...

You go for it.

Thank you! I'm not discouraged at all :) intimidating of course but Im sure I can get there with practice ^^

If my experiences are anything to judge by, there's a bunch of huge learning curves. Pre season 6, I fed the fuck out of everyone and couldn't play a single champ. Season six, I stopped feeding with easy champs like Janna. Season seven, I became decent at supporting, managed to actually do stuff, and started filling, dipped my toes into each role. Now, I'm able to climb on my own without having to need a plat friend boost me, and can play at least two champs decently for each lane. Keep playing, practice is key!

oh wow! Thank you for the feedback!
