Because that's literally the only thing you do as a ''Support''. No Support mains, you're not carrying, you're not making plays, you're AFK. Supports lookout not only for the adc, but the welfare of the entire team. Tanking hits and engaging, healing and shielding, stat boosting, disengaging if need be, even sacrificing themselves for another teammate so the enemy doesnt get shutdown gold. It's very disrespectful to anyone playing this game saying that supports are unnecessary, because a good support can absolutely make sure a game is in their team's favor.

They might not have the biggest impact in team fight, but they are the one who put the fucking ward down that make you caught the enemy jungler to be able to take baron safely. Enemy team has 4 channels. Everyone on their team is channeling and about to win the team fight. Soraka, the support, gets a 5-man silence interrupting all their channels. Jinx gets a triple kill and the rest are killed by the others.

I will tell you right now, I have never once in my time of playing League seen a support that tried to take credit for a kill, or multi-kill, or team fight won, without it given to them. I've seen supports applauded for it, the same thing there with what happened with Jinx, but truthfully and honestly, I can't remember a single time a support ever said, "that kill was all me."
