Relating to Bans for Draft/Ranked Games

So...something I'm sure everyone has wondered at this point...are we going to increase the amount of bans per team? Seeing as LoL has over 120 champions, isn't it due time to up the bans? Excusing the fact there are the "usual offenders" of imbalanced champions, it doesn't seem like an extra ban per team would hurt the game balance on a whole.

Now I know that it's been mentioned that extra bans would limit the options a professional player has for tournaments or the like. While that's understandable, why not just allow the bans to stay at 3 per professional team, but increase the amount for the average players? That way, it doesn't affect the pros, and we get what most of us want.

I think it's worth a shot, but tell me what you guys think. Riot too, of course!

Outside of professional play, bans are merely a way to

  1. eliminate any broken OP champions. Like the recent Warwick or Pantheon. Riot has done much better with this than in the past, what people say are OP today are just meta good champions that we should be able to play. What was broken in the past was game warping.
  2. eliminate hard counters. Oh I really want to first pick caitlyn, ban sivir. Etc... Maybe there's a champion who's completely shut down by 1 or 2 enemies and so you ban them. Notice how often someone first picks Leona and bans Morgana?
  3. champions you just don't like. Enemy team has a yorrick? I'm not a top main, and I've never seen him before. I'll have no clue what to do, why not ban him just in case?

The purpose of bans is NOT to try and get lucky and ban someone's main. Unfortunately that's what it seems to turn in to - someone asks for a fizz ban even though I'm going to be mid and I don't mind laning against him so I don't ban it, then they rage when fizz gets picked saying they were right I should have banned fizz. Ignore the fact that I proceed to go 4-1 against him in Lane, I still should have banned fizz. Increasing the number of bans just increases the chance of banning someone's main, it doesn't make eliminating hard counters and OP champions easier because there typically aren't that many you need to hit.
