Is Yasuo "broken" after the nerf or not?

RUNlC··2 votes·1,573 views

I got many questions asking if I think Yasuo is broken. In my opinion, he is a bit overloaded as of right now, but he got a nerf with his E/dash so the damage on it is -50 magic damage at max rank than his old 150 magic damage. He has double critical strike chance, a 0.1 second cooldown dash that can go through walls, 1.33 second cooldown Q with the most CDR with attack speed, and a windwall that can block nearly everything except Vel'Koz and Lux ultimates. Yasuo is probably one of the most hated champions as of right now because of how snowbally he is. If he gets 2 or 3 kills and maybe 1 death, he'll snowball throughout the whole game unless your team can hard CC him, like stun, root, silence, slow, things like that. He is also very annoying of he feed 1/10. He'll pretty much lose the game for the team if he can't provide anything for the team. What's your opinion? Yasuo

No amount of nerfs or buffs will "fix" Yasuo because the problem is his kit... not his numbers. He is poorly designed and most people find him incredibly obnoxious and unfun to play against. Nerfing him just makes people not want Yasuo to be on their TEAM either, since he's underpowered and a champ that is easy to screw up. The massive ego most Yas players seem to have doesn't help here either. He also tends to show up in mid, taking the spot of a longer-ranged AP caster with utility... or top, taking up the spot most people expect will be filled by a tank. Either way... the team feels it has suffered a loss in utility because someone picked Yas. The fact that Yas pretty much HAS to become a hard carry to matter makes this worse on both ends, as it feeds the afforementioned "yasuo main ego". On games he does well... he IS usually carrying. On games he does poorly he's usually such dead weight he may as well be afk. And the thought that he always COULD have carried the game lends the average person to blame others for them not being able to do so... that's just how human nature works.

Yasuo isn't a numbers problem. His problems come much deeper than that and no numbers changes will fix him. His problems come from people, and general human nature. He's poorly designed because he seems to bring out nothing but rage and hatred from people... not because his kit doesn't work well with itself. He's a bad design choice for the game... and make the game a little more toxic and unfun merely by existing for a lot of reasons that aren't REALLY his fault, nor were likely considered when he was being designed. He's a frustrating pile of easy-to-hate abilities and themes that is designed specifically to appeal to a certain type of fan (Anime fans mostly, with two or three non-anime fans that just like samurai in there somewhere) and this makes his playerbase easy to mock as well as "weebs". His high difficulty and NEED to snowball leads to a lot of negative effects on the game as well... fueling a massive ego and "I must carry every game" mentality on the part of many his players. His ult, probably INTENDED to improve teamwork by having his teammates set him up, instead leads to people feeling annoyed that now they "have" to play a knock-up champ because someone first-picked Yasuo. This breeds resentment, not teamwork. And because he's so difficult and his fans so numerous (and most of them are just average players, at best) no one really has and faith in the guy who locks Yasuo. Ever.

It's almost as if nearly every single design choice that was made involving Yasuo was made to highlight a problem with the game and the community... because he certainly brings out the worst in it left and right. His mains. His fans. His casual players. His enemies. His allies. Yasuo is VERY easily capable of brining out the worst in them all. He's problematic in ways that can NOT be balanced, because they're not problems with the coding or the numbers. Not really. His problems are simply that he appeals to some people a lot, and that everyone else tends to utterly freaking HATE him. And there are valid reasons to both enjoy AND loathe him... so it will never change. No matter how many numbers they shift or tweaks they give him. A full rework MIGHT fix things... but at this point his name is so hated by people that I think it wouldn't help. If he's weaker or less annoying/overloaded after the rework his fans will feel betrayed and if he's anything resembling strong or viable his haters will likely still hate him... even if he's only average in power.

Me? I just ban him. It may not be his fault, but I hate the effect that he has on the game and I know I'm going to have less fun almost anytime the guy shows up, one way or another. This game is frustrating and stressful enough without his presence in it.

Seems that actual good players don't mind yasuo. Why is this? Also he is high risk high reward so any champ like that is poorly designed? Fiora is a top laner played a lot in higher elo and she doesn't bring any utility for her team. If you want to call her ult utility then yasuo gets to say he has utility too because he has cc.

The Whamboozler1 votes

I would NOT call Fiora's ult utility. I would also call it lousy, but that's less because it's a bad ultimate and more because it's a stupid ultimate for her character. "I am a duelist, that's why I have an ult that gives an AoE heal. You know... because duelists totally heal people". Fiora's ultimate is thematically unfitting and was just included to force her to have a use in teamfights and correct the "melee carries suck" problem Riot was having at the time.

But this is beside the point as I never mentioned Fiora. I mentioned Yasuo... who is built from the ground up in a way that is as frustrating as possible. Just because higher skill players are good at ruining him doesn't make him well-designed. Winrates don't equal good design either. Statistics can be made to say anything, really... and even when they're given earnestly they can be very misleading.

Imagine there was an item in the game. Let's call it the Gambler's Coin. It costs 2000 gold, gives NO stats and has only one use... which happens immediately if you purchase it and leave spawn. When it's bought, the game randomly destroys one of the two nexus', ending the game immediately. Now, this item would probably have very close to a 50% winrate, since that is literally what it does... half the time it destroys your nexus, half the time it destroys the enemy's. But ANY idiot can tell you that this is a very poorly designed item. It's stupid and unfun. It will only be bought by teams who are about to lose, in the hopes of securing a win they shouldn't have earned... And by trolls a lot, probably.

Now, Yasuo is not THAT bad. But his kit is full of those kind of cockblocking or unfun mechanics. Did you poke him? Well his passive shield diminished how much that poke mattered. Try to ult him? Wind Wall. He's ahead of you so you need to play safe? Good luck laning when you can't step near your minions without getting dashed into. His kit puts ALL the rewards on him, and all the agency on him. Yasuo's kit means nearly every lane or matchup he's a part of is decided by Yasuo. Even if his high difficulty means that Yasuo often decides this to his detriment because he is easy to mess up, the fact that he is firmly holding the ball and you can mostly just hope that he fumbles it is BAD DESIGN. And this would not be so bad if he wasn't snowbally, or if he fell off over time without making plays... but he is brutally strong with mid-late game items... so you are basically put into a position where you kinda HAVE to make plays and get ahead of a champion who is entirely built to cockblock you. NOT GOOD DESIGN.

You're looking at numbers, winrates and whatnot and saying "oh man, if he's not overpowered than he must be well-designed". No. It doesn't matter if high elo players are good at exploiting his weaknesses when he tries to playmake, or if his difficulty makes him hard to use or any of that. He is poorly designed by his very nature, and no amount of numbers fixes will change how much players hate his guts because playing against him is frustrating in the extreme. THAT is why he is toxic. Because he is a toxic, agitating influence on the game. All nerfing him will do is make his winrate plummet so that the people on his team hate him too. Because they'll know he's bad and unlikely to do well because of his low power and high difficulty. He needs a kit change to make him less rage-inducing, not a buff OR a nerf. I don't want him nerfed. I want him tweaked so that his mere presence in a game doesn't bring on seething waves of hatred from people. He needs a kit that FEELS more fair. That is less frustrating to play against. That doesn't feel like playing cops and robbers vs the kid who insists he has an "everything-proof vest" that makes him immune to your bullets. It doesn't matter if he loses eventually if the entire game he's annoying as sin and puts everyone in a lousy mood.

I guess it's just opinion because I don't find him rage inducing to face at all. His shield is easy to break, his windwall is easily baited, and his dashes can be predicted. There are tons of champs that I find rage inducing such as fizz but I don't think he needs anything tweaked because he is balanced. If there are ways to counter a champ and you know how to do it easily then there should be no problem. I think people should learn the matchup before complaining that he's annoying.

  1. Fizz being frustrating and poorly designed does not mean that every champ who is NOT Fizz is well designed. Fizz and Yasuo can BOTH be poorly designed.

  2. The defense of "I can usually beat Yasuo so therefore he's fine" is ALSO really lousy. It's also highly subjective. Say I'm a Malzahar main. Oh man, I beat Yasuo like... EVERY time I lane against him. I guess that means he's both balanced and not annoying for anyone else because I can beat him on my best champ who also just happens to brutally hard-counter him. It's bad logic.

Besides... Yasuo being easy to counterpick isn't balance OR good design. It means he's bipolar as fuck. He's stupid easy to counterpick and trash, but if he happens to do well against the champ you picked because they say... use a lot of skillshots or something, he's probably gonna be a massive frustrating pile of shit that's as fun as scraping your gums. So the game is either lame for him, or lame for the enemy? So I have to counterpick the stupid turd to not want to pull my hair out? These are instances of BAD DEESIGN... because they increase the frustration of the game without really adding much. What unique trait does Yasuo bring to the game to justify the massive hate he evokes... and is it worth how much anger he brings up in the game? I'd say no. But that is, of course, just my opinion.

But please... PLEASE... stop doing what EVERYONE does and assuming that me hating Yasuo means that I think he's OP or that I can't beat him ever. I don't think he's broken... I think he is a very, VERY poorly designed champion. I think there are other poorly designed champs in the game, but this thread was about Yas, so here we are. I think the mechanics he is based around are bad for the game, and that his kit is riddled with free stats and hidden power to bolster him up in an over-complicated way. His kit is both overloaded and frustrating but COMPLETELY NEEDED to be viable and that is BAD DESIGN. I would like to see his kit tweaked so he can be strong without being obnoxious as hell. It's not like he's Singed and that's his whole point or anything.

Wylderthanu1 votes

Every champion can be annoyng if they counter you. It's not just yasuo. I agree with on his kit being overloaded, but every new champ and rework has an overloaded kit so it's just becoming normal and when every champ finally gets reworked, every champ will be overloaded.

I wouldn't give that as an example since those players he killed played so badly.

I guess the Soraka didn't contribute anything, right?

Here we go again, another exaggeration clip. It's not a 1v3, and enemies do not have their ults up. Soraka saves Yasuo big time with Redemption and her heals. Yasuo is fine, people need to play around him.

Soraka : Reported for saying i didn't help!!!!!![slayer-jinx-unamused] 344+401+498 which is 1243 amount of dmg healed!
