Why do people play worse in ranked?

After a long time break from ranked games, I decided to give ranked another try, so I go into game and I see I have lags, heh, no big deal I say and proceed to still win my lane, even tho jungle ganked me and my laner got fed in the end, but the fact is that like ~70% of the bottom laners are bad just like the ones in this game on my team, and our mid laner was afk. This is less likely to happen for me in a normal game, but as far as I can see it happens alot more in ranked. Just riot, I have played alot of ranked, and from what I can see is that people perform so much more worse in ranked, and goddamn is it near impossible for me to pick up a win. Is it REALLLLLY bad luck I am having or something else is wrong? I am Silver 5 and main Nasus (doge woof woof)

Several reason's.

  1. ranked is not casual and when people feel it is lost they often go afk specially in lower rank http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/rankings/afk-stats

  2. bad luck(yes this happens)

  3. ultra early game meta, so champions that acquire true late game status are not the strongest right now http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/nasus . on this page if you look at the Winrate / Game Duration you see that nasus really starts winning if games drag on longer. This does not mean that nasus is not viable, it just means that you have to keep your team motivated enough to not quit before 35 minutes.

  4. not the best role when you have bad teammates: top is really good to get ahead and snowball or build yourself up, but if your teammates are bad it is really hard to group up from here.

  5. your build is getting slowly outdated. http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/items/nasus
