Promo duo-queue disparity

Just finished my promo matches with my duo partner and we got placed. I got back up to where I was, no big deal, though slightly disappointing since we went 8-2. He actually ended up lower than he ended last season and a full 4 divisions lower than me. How does that make any sense? I played mostly carry roles and he was mostly support for our matches, but I don't think that matters because only win-loss counts towards MMR. Unless I'm wrong.

WTF happened? Why weren't we placed closer?

It depends on where you were last season, the preseason also counts! Even if you were both lets say gold 3 your MMR could still be higher than his. I also think your KDA is a factor, last season me and a friend decided to test it. We made new accounts, got to level 30, i was gonna support and go for worse KDA while he was supposed to die as little as possible and get as many kills as possible. We ended 9-1 in our placement matches, he got gold V and i got silver 2. We played all 10 games together.
