Sightstone

So, my boyfriend doesn't think it's necessary to buy sightstone as a support. Simply because, "Everyone has wards. I have my standard wards and so does my ADC. It's pointless to waste 800 gold on sightstone when everyone has wards." What do I do? I've tried everything to convince him that he should buy sightstone. I don't know what else to say/do. Suggestions?

Well he claims to have "standard wards" which implies the yellow trinket and perhaps a control ward. Let him know that this is firstly not enough vision and it also means he isn't building a sweeper to clear enemy vision. This means if vision is contested (which it will be), the enemy team will always win that contest.

You could also suggest that he just shouldn't play support.

However, whatever you suggest know that it may just be ignored. People do not like to address their own problems, they don't like admitting that they need to improve.

Bronze players forgo sightstone. Pros swear by it. You do the math.

Tell him if he was good he could buy sightstone and handicap himself to make the rest of his team better.

Tell your boyfriend this : Less wards - more deaths

If I had to guess from your match history it's the "Dr" player; they have a really low KDA on every champion, meaning they die once for nearly every kill or assist they get. Just point at that. They die so often because they don't know where the enemy is but the enemy can see them.

is he bronze? then it makes sense.

Better information makes for better decisions. Ask him how, as a sightless support, he intends to keep an eye on the river, the bushes, and the dragon pit with a piddly trinket. Also, remind him that every gold item can combine with a sightstone, and since both are vital to the role, it's nice to have your gold item and 4 wards in one item slot.

This is a problem that has been around for a long time. Sightstone feels shitty. FEELS, not is, FEELS shitty. It's an item that supports are literally expected by everyone on their team to buy first, but usually can't right away. Not to mention it gives mediocre stats that you're forced to hold on to until late game when you can upgrade it. Add to that the fact that Disruptor Wards are way better than the wards that sightstone provides.

Sightstone is an important item. That doesn't mean it doesn't feel super awful

JhomasTefferson1 votes

No combat stats or even useful stats besides health tend to do that. f it started with more hp before upgrade it would be better imo, but on a tank sup, when you really need a defensive item after relic and you buy sightstone, all you have is a lot of hp, which kinda blows cuz everything is going to melt thru you with no resistances. On like, a raka or janna its not totally awful, cuz you need the hp to not get oneshotted by everything, but on anything else, it's kinda sad.

on the contrary

When the enemy Braum comes back with a Sightstone and is tankier and this means can do is job better as well as deal more damage on his Q , while you are a Sona or Lulu and get virtually no utility from the purchase, it feels pretty shitty.

Braum's entire kit benefits from the HP. Sona's Heals, shields and speed boost don't get better from the HP.

And that is why you play Sion into Braum.

Nah, Braum has major problems against poke lanes.

Sona, Brand, Zilean, Vel, and Zyra are your best bets.

You COULD just try to outbrawl him with Sion, but that is definately the riskier option.

Oututilize the HP! Then poke em down with E. Then just trample them underfoot.

Not sure if shitposting but I'll bite. No. I am not trying to win lanes. I am pointing out that there is a bias towards tank supports with the existence of Sightstone and it being mandatory as a first purchase on supports.

Say NO THE SLAVESTONE!!

No one asks the midlaner "Where is your X item?" No one asks the toplaner "Where is your X item" No one asks the adc "Where is your X item"

but everyone is like "WHERE IS YOUR SIGHTSTONE?!"

FUCK. THAT. SHIT.

ph1234k2 votes

Many people ask your three lane examples those build questions as there are quite a bit of players who think they know how other champs should be built.

At least the sightstone ask makes sense since it is always useful unlike suggestions from top lane for your ADC to build black cleaver when there are no tanks on the enemy team.

ChaddyFantome1 votes

yes it is bullshit but until Riot stops being lazy and balances vision properly, it is within your best interest to get it if you actually wanna win the game, no matter your elo.

Depends on what ELO you're in. I doubt people in Bronze even look at the minimap anyway, even if it is warded.

Wards honestly aren't super helpful anymore (besides control wards in certain matchups). Often, I see the threat, but I can't do anything about it. Hec charging after my ass? I run away as fast as I can, the laner ccs me and he just doesn't give a damn and dives. Vi just ults, Lee pulls shenanigans, etc.

They're extremely helpful post laning phase, but in actual laning they don't have as much effect as they used to.

If everyone has "standard wards" what about the people who take these?

item 3364 item 3341 item 3363

The Taggerung2 votes

Depends on your ELO, low ELO's can do without because everyone is terrible and it doesnt take many wards to predict enemies. In higher ELO's wards and vision and vision control have huge impacts on games and each team usually has 2 sweepers plus adc has a blue meaning the team is usually down about 5 wards making sight stone very useful.

Truly Prideful2 votes

It is necessary in my opinion. Yes everyone has wards, but you buy Sightstone so have a ward supply you can replenish when needed and so you can swap to a sweeper to eliminate enemy vision. Vision denial is argueably more important than having vision itself.

Really though, he may just be someone who believes what they believe and that's that. It's likely you're not going to be able to convince him if you're already giving him the good arguements so you might have to just let him play how he plays.

RedCyclone2 votes

As much as I hate buying sightstone and it stinking up an entire item slot (making it a pain for AP supports with many component items), it's mandatory to buy if you want to win in a serious game

Escheton1 votes

Tell him to read the trinket duration and respawn rate. Then that of sightstone. If he doesn't realize how much more vision sightstone gives in the early game start un-realizing that that thing he likes feels good.

Sightstone is indeed necessary.. well if you want the best possible chance of winning that is

Because it allows you to more quickly move or replace wards and it also allows you to clear wards with item 3364 while putting down wards

item 2303/item 2301 aren't that bad if he really wants to build selfish items

My brother is the same way. Support main, refuses to buy sightstone. I found a new brother. You should find a new boyfriend.

Honestly, though, vision is fucking KEY to winning the game. Sightstone isn't only necessary at level 5 on bot lane, it's necessary end-game for barons/ dragons.

Professor Ward1 votes

There is no easier way to win a game late than to catch player out with good vision.

Not going to happen without a sightstone.

As a support main sightstone and a control STILL ISNT ENOUGH ward for me
