Banned accounts lose money spent!

junkyloler··6 votes·1,577 views

Just a fair warning to all of you out there, Riot has taken to stealing your money by banning accounts permanently and not issuing refunds for the money spent on the banned account. This is blatant theft, and Riot is the judge, jury, and executioner. If you are like me, and have spent many years and dollars on this game, be forewarned and cease playing immediately. They have no interest in justice, only a quick and easy fix. Sorry Riot, but that will only result in a drastically negative chain reaction of lost loyalty and users.

It's not stealing.

You agree to the ToS when you create an account and play their free game. Anything you purchase is on you and solely your decision. If you break the ToS that you agreed to, they have every right to terminate your account and not issue a refund.

However, there is a very easy way to prevent this and I'll share it with you guys. . . . . . . . . . .

Just don't act like a dick.

Not Technically true. As a contract participation you have rights too. You have a right to dispute charges with a creditor if you feel that the vendor you purchased from has entered into a position where they are no longer offering you what you purchased, as long as that vendor is active.

League = one of the most Charge Back'd games in the world.

Now, if a Ban-ee does such, they can expect to have every account locked from future purchases and your credit source will block any future purchases from the vendor, so it's a cautious position to take. They also usually only have a limited period in which they will review like 3 months.

They do have the right to dispute the charges. Riot just won't directly refund them.

tl;dr I spent money, so I get to be a dick without consequences

Not quite. The consequence to being a dick SHOULD be the restriction of the account. The purchases on them can be disputed with creditors.

Disputing charges you know are valid on a credit card is felony fraud. People can (and do) go to jail for this. There are lawyers who are literally specialized in protecting businesses from this charge back fraud. You agreed to Riot's terms and services. You don't then get to decide the charges are fraudulent after YOU broke the contract that you agreed to.

So for anyone reading this guy's advice, dont do it. It is literally illegal.

There are parts of Riot's contract itself (like any game publisher) who are designed to create a contract which is actually legally unenforceable. I actually have a BA in Business administration and one of the sections we took courses in was Torts and Contracts. If information or understanding is asymmetric, some parts of a contract become voidable.

If you actually read, btw, I didn't condone actually committing fraud. I said you can contest the charges with your creditor. If your creditor consents, then you had a legal foothold on which to argue your case.

that's a loaded question isn't it If riot actually steals from me then yeah sure i'll boycott, But I mean, we all agree'd to the ToS so we don't have a direct right to be outraged

we do have a right to petition renegotiations of the contract, but we don't have a real right to be surprised or outraged by the outcome of not upholding our end

2.2. What happens if my account is terminated? (No LoL for you.) If your account is terminated, you’ll no longer have access to it, including any of the associated data or content (e.g., champions, skins, Riot Points, etc.). You’ll not be entitled to any refunds and we’ll have no liability to you. We also reserve the right to terminate any other accounts you may have created (also without any refunds or liability to you). You understand and agree that using the Riot Services comes with the risk that your account may be terminated or suspended and that, whenever you use the Riot Services, you’ll bear this risk in mind and always conduct yourself appropriately.

4.3. Do I “own” the Virtual Goods I unlock? (No. What you “unlock” is not the virtual good itself, but rather, a qualified right to access it in the Game.) You have no ownership or other property interest in any of the Virtual Goods you unlock, regardless of whether you acquired access to those Virtual Goods using Riot Points, Influence Points or Hextech Crafting. Virtual Goods have no monetary value. You can’t redeem them for cash. You can’t obtain any refunds for purchasing Riot Points or Virtual Goods, except as expressly permitted by us. You can find our current content refund policy here. We have the right to delete, alter, move, remove, or transfer any and all Game Content—including Virtual Goods—in whole or in part, at any time and for any reason or no reason, with or without notice to you, and with no liability of any kind to you. We don’t provide or guarantee, and expressly disclaim, any value, cash or otherwise, attributed to any data residing on servers we operate or control, including any Game Content attributed to your account. The sale or transfer of your right to access certain Virtual Goods, Influence Points, Riot Points or Hextech Items may only be conducted via services approved of or provided by us, if any.

4.4. Once again: I don’t own these Virtual Goods? (“No!” shouted all the lawyers.) NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY HEREIN, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOU SHALL HAVE NO OWNERSHIP OR OTHER PROPERTY INTEREST IN YOUR ACCOUNT, AND THAT ALL RIGHTS IN AND TO YOUR ACCOUNT ARE AND SHALL FOREVER BE OWNED BY AND INURE TO THE BENEFIT OF RIOT GAMES. YOU FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOU HAVE NO CLAIM, RIGHT, TITLE, OWNERSHIP, OR OTHER PROPRIETARY INTEREST IN THE GAME CONTENT THAT YOU UNLOCK OR ACCUMULATE, REGARDLESS OF ANY CONSIDERATION OFFERED OR PAID IN EXCHANGE FOR RIOT POINTS OR VIRTUAL GOODS. FURTHERMORE, RIOT GAMES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE IN ANY MANNER FOR THE DESTRUCTION, DELETION, MODIFICATION, IMPAIRMENT, HACKING, OR ANY OTHER DAMAGE OR LOSS OF ANY KIND CAUSED TO THE GAME CONTENT, VIRTUAL GOODS OR RIOT POINTS, INCLUDING THE DELETION OF GAME CONTENT, VIRTUAL GOODS OR RIOT POINTS UPON THE TERMINATION OR EXPIRATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT.

ToS states otherwise.

Sounds like someone didn't read the ToS and is mad cause they got rightfully banned for doing things they shouldn't have.

Oh you'll get your turn in the barrel too :) Atm about half of League's population has been banned at least once.

You got a source for those numbers? Riot has some numbers of their own, and they look nothing like that.

Riot's number has been 0.005% for over 4 years. Statistics are not static, and the system they have now works VERY different than the one they had then. The tribunal might have had a .005% perma ban rate because jurors usually understood slight infractions. The Automatic system they have now doesn't work like that. Slight in fractions are recorded and you can reliably get called on just getting mad at erroneous play and bossing people around or saying "GG." You don't have to cuss, and you don't have to use hate. You just have to be human. Being human atm gets punished more than intentional grief.

Will I boycott Riot if they steal from me? You're damn right I will.

Is banning an account stealing? No.

you know the summoners code. dont do things that get you banned

They can't steal something you willingly gave to them you know.

HalcyonDweller3 votes

WTF? Riot doesn't ban you so that they can take your money. They ban you if you break the ToS, because they don't want people acting like dicks or cheating in their game.

Don't pretend like Riot just bans accounts with money spent on them just because there is money on them. If anything Riot would actually avoid that because they don't want a paying customer to lose their account and stop paying, but they care more about the integrity of the game than they do about keeping you around if you act like a jerk, hence why they still ban people if they break the ToS.

It's all there in the ToS you agreed to when signing up...

Lol.

You got permbanned because you refused to accept the rules after repeated warnings. 100% your fault and under your control.

Riot does not get extra money by blaming you - in fact they lose it, because you clearly wont be spending any more money on this game.

You got removed because you refused to follow the rules, and going by your attitude, it is pretty clear why you had to be banned.

Looks like someone didn't read the ToS.

Well, it IS Riot stealing from you, since it IS abuse of the law and it IS Riot being extremely greedy, so yes, they are indeed stealing from you. However, you cannot prove that since they're backed by billions of dollars worth of lawyers through their own economy and TenCent's.

MythPuppy1 votes

I mean I follow the rules so I don't have to worry about getting banned anyway. But I use RP cards mostly, so if I did get banned It would be literally impossible to get money back anyhow.

For real though, you should have followed the rules dude
