Lee sin W not working with Quick+Self cast?

I played lee sin today for the first time in quite a while, and I remember that I used to be able to just press W to safeguard myself, not having to mouse over any particular target. This is because I use Quick+Smart cast in my configuration. While playing today, however, it seems that even with the key configuration set up this way, he won't safeguard himself unless I actually physically mouse over him and press W.

Is this intentional/normal? Am I remembering this champion wrong? I feel like if I have Quick+Self cast set up, if I press W i should instantly shield myself if I haven't chosen another target - but that's not the way its currently working.

Anyone else experience this or have a fix? Or am I just making all of this up in my head?

Actually this was intended with a recent patch. Probably 7.11 I believe edit: http://lol.gamepedia.com/V7.11

They note that they also plan to restore it in an upcoming patch. That's nice :}

I've played a lot of Lee myself, using smart + self cast for any champ on all abilities. This makes Lee unplayable for me since I've gotten used to selfcasting W a long time ago. I don't feel like switching my bindings just for one champ. I don't even get the point in disabling his W selfcast in the first place. Would really appreciate the long due fix to this!

It's pretty annoying.. sucks having to mouse over just to shield yourself, esp when he's a skill shot champ.
