Promoting a more healthy ranked experience through champion limitations
This is my very first post here, and I'm positive this has been brought up before but..
I just finished a game on ranked with people who take positions such as marksman, jungle and so on however, it is their first time playing that champion in ranked play.
I think if ranked had a restriction so that you are not allowed to play champions you've never played before it would do the following.
- Decrease the amount of burden for other players having to 'carry'.
- Reduce negativity within ranked matches.
- Promotes a more consistent level of play throughout all divisions.
- As an example you shouldn't have to deal with someone who is playing at a Silver level if you're in Diamond just because they decide to first time pick a champion they've never played before.
- Requires extra effort for smurfs.
- I believe Riot has said before smurfing is an issue, this discourages smurfing.
- Smurfs will need to go through the trouble of having to do required games before they can enter ranked play.
- Makes League of Legends more of a unified team effort game.
- The chances are if one person is unable to play up to their usual level of play due to the fact that they're using a champion they're using for the first time it places a burden on the team and possibly themselves and as they say "You're only as a strong as your weakest link.".
What I am suggesting is that there be a required amount of games that you have played on any champion before you're allowed to play it in ranked. This could be done by playing normal games, normal drafts or using the current mastery system (suggested by Yazzy814). I understand that you should be allowed to choose any champion you wish to play, however I believe ranked play is not a acceptable place to test out or play champions for the first time.
If you agree or disagree with this idea or have anything you would like to added to this list of how it would affect overall ranked play, I would like to hear it.
