How does the ranked mm work?

I'm new and wanted to try ranked. I've played 3 games so far but I don't understand how the system chooses opponents at all. I got placed in bronze 3 but in every single game I'm facing players that are in gold rank and players who are like lvl 200+. Is this the way it's supposed to be?

How does it work? The short answer is that it doesn't. The long answer is that your real rank is something called "mmr" that is an invisible number that decides what rank your allies and enemies will be. This practically means that any opponent/ally that is a higher rank than you loses more than their rank would imply and any opponent/ally that is a lower rank than you wins more than their rank would imply.

Yep, what this guy said is how it works in a nutshell. One of the big reasons why I quit. More so the second season you play after their “soft” reset. If you are new and read posts on this board you will find the same question/comment over and over. Why does matchmaking suck? Why doesn’t Riot just use MMR? I think they used MMR in season 1 or 2 then decided to hide it in later seasons. Good luck climbing out of that mess called “ranked”.
