Kayle Rework Feedback from an Ex Kayle Main
I am an ex Kayle main. I have been playing the game on this account (Kaw) since season 1, and I have played over 1000 games on the champion Kayle, with around 600k mastery points. (before her rework). Specifically, I played Kayle exclusively mid lane.
Since the rework, I have played exactly 1 game with my old main, favorite champion. My performance in this one game I played was not poor, in fact I scored a pentakill. Nevertheless, I was left feeling very disappointed. The core game play interactions of the hero have been changed significantly. Allow me to express the aspects of the new kit which I loathe, and that are inconsistent with the champion identity that was fostered for almost a decade:
-
The lack of a ranged auto attack option at level 1 effectively makes this hero non viable in the mid lane, barring a few extremely uncommon matchups. The champion design involving the ranged auto attacks coming into effect at level 11 is poor. What has been created is a champion that is not viable or enjoyable to play for the first 15 minutes of every game. I want to be able to enjoy the champion at level 1.
-
The self-stun channeling effect during the ultimate is again, poor design. The nuance and flinch reaction timing associated to using Kayle ultimate at the perfect time to bait out enemy attacks and position and then using that 2-3 second window to counterattack was a core game play element of the previous kit. In its place, Kayle's new ultimate involves her channeling and being unable to do any damage for the duration of the damage immunity. This feels terrible, why would I want to be self-stunned during the only 2-3 second window where I may actually have a chance to do damage?

The late-game power to offset early game weakness balance ideology is flawed and inconsistent with the champion identity. The old kit was in my opinion relatively strong early game (before level 6) with just the ranged auto attacks. The new kit is so weak early game compared to the damage threshold of other melee range mid lane champions (Zed, Talon, Qiyana, Katarina) that I felt like there will never be an opportunity for me to have kill pressure early in the mid lane even with perfect play. I played Kayle mid lane with ignite, and was extremely aggressive. This is no longer feasible.
I understand that the likely hood of any of these changes being reverted is essentially nonexistent. I am more or less just venting because this is one of the two or three hero's that I really ever truly loved and my interest in the game has significantly diminished since this champion rework. Riot has long advocated that their primary concern when reworking champions is to preserve the champion identity, while creating a more modernized kit for the new game. I feel like this has not been accomplished with the Kayle rework.
Are there any other ex Kayle mains out there who feel the same way? Or what are your general opinions on the Kayle rework now that we've had time to see the meta game for the new kit be fully developed?
Give me my hero back :(
